Birding By Ear CDsThese CDs stand out from most other products with their educational approach. In this series of CDs from the Peterson Field Guides® Series, Richard K. Walton and Robert W. Lawson introduce the listener to mental tools for describing, remembering, and identifying bird songs and calls. Birds are presented in groups based on similarity of song. Bird vocalizations are compared and contrasted and tips are given for distinguishing between similarly sounding species. Booklets contain phonetic indices which are useful for identifying sounds. |

North American Bird CD-ROMsCD-ROMs provide much more than just bird songs and so the bird song component is only one factor in considering a selection. The ability to quickly access a species' songs and calls and have photos, illustrations, and text to make a stonger mental connection of the sound to the bird are strong advantages over audio CDs although the audio reproduction is not as accurate. In addition all the CD-ROMs have quiz and practice modes where you can practice identifying bird sounds. The descriptions below only address the bird sounds aspect of the CD-ROMs. |
