In 1986 the Friends of Mount Auburn Cemetery was established to promote
the appreciation and preservation of Mount Auburn's cultural,
historic and natural resources.
A nonprofit charitable trust, the Friends sponsors lectures,
walking tours and seminars throughout the year and publishes
a wide variety of informational material, including its newsletter Sweet Auburn.
Membership in the Friends is open to all who wish to support this special place.
Members receive Sweet Auburn; the Cemetery's Annual Report,
published annually since 1832;
and notices and reduced admission to programs.
The Friends Need Your Support. . .
The Friends currently seeks funding for plant material to
rejuvenate historic areas and for educational materials to
assist the many classes and groups that visit each year.
In the past the Friends has received financial support
for special projects from foundations, corporations and individuals.
Examples include restoration of the historically significant
Charles Bulfinch monument; cataloguing and preservation of
Mount Auburn's archival collection of papers, maps and photographs;
and a major planting at Willow Pond to restore the beauty of the area
and enhance the habitat for wildlife.
