The 4 volumes of John James Audubon's Birds of North America were completed in 1838 and were the largest and most expensive set of volumes of their day. These volumes were recognized both as a high achievement in American art and natural history. The watercolors that were the basis for the prints in Birds of North America were purchased by the New-York Historical Society from Audubon's widow in 1863. One of those watercolors depicted Gyrfalcons and is reproduced in the print being offered. This print includes the Gyrfalcon image and a caption, "John James Audubon -- The New-York Historical Society, New York City", as depicted to the right. The print is 36 x 24 inches and comes with a brushed aluminum frame. The prize was generously donated by Migration Productions. |
