Observers still have an opportunity to see GRAY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCHES in
large numbers in Exshaw along Hwy 1A east of Canmore. On March 11 Jean Dunn
and Richard Thomas reported finding hundreds there in the Barrier Drive
area, including 3 Hepburn's subspecies. They also noted 2 male RED-WINGED
BLACKBIRDS across the RR tracks at residental feeders. Richard got a quick
look at the overwintering HARRIS'S SPARROW.
On March 12 John McFaul watched 75-100 gulls flying over the Bow River in
Calgary, near the 10 Street bridge.
On the same day Minga O'Brien, Greg Wagner and Mike Mulligan visited Frank
Lake east of High River, where the water is open at the northwest corner.
Waterfowl seen included aprx 100 NORTHERN PINTAILS, 3 AMERICAN WIGEONS, 2
REDHEADS, 1 scaup, and several BUFFLEHEADS -- plus thousands of Mallards and
hundreds of Canada Geese.
Terry Korolyk spotted 6 AMERICAN CROWS near Inglewood Bird Sanctuary,
Calgary, on March 11.
