Welcome to the City of Calgary and CFNS Bird Alert. This Bird Alert was
recorded on Thursday March 20 at 10:50am. To report a bird sighting, call

Sanctuary.

Lois and Bill Lange watched 12 TUNDRA SWANS at Frank Lake east of High River 
on March 17. These were the first of the season reported in the Calgary 
area. They also saw many NORTHERN PINTAILS, a male EURASIAN WIGEON, 4 
CANVASBACKS, 4 LESSER SCAUP, 10 REDHEADS and 10 AMERICAN WIGEON.

Terry Korolyk found 2 adult HERRING GULLS south of Calgary on March 19. They 
were with a flock of California Gulls, along 194 Avenue east of Hwy 2, just 
west of the Browning-Ferris landfill.

The next scheduled update of the Bird Alert is on Monday March 24.


BIRD STUDY GROUP - Meets the first Wednesday of the month, September - May
at 7:30 pm, Room 211, BioSciences Building, University of Calgary. The next
meeting will be on Wednesday April 2. Doors open at 7:00pm.

singing. Meet first parking lot, Bowness Park, N of 48 Av NW, W of 85 St.

      Sat Mar 29, 8:30am: Boreal Birding at Bebo Grove, Fish Creek

flocks, this is a good time to begin. Meet Carburn Park. S from Glenmore Tr 
at 18 St SE to second stoplight, then right & follow signs. Dress warmly.

Park, 42 Av SW, just W of Macleod Tr. Walk to Glenmore Reservoir, ride back 
(3.5 hours). Call leaders, Aileen Pelzer/Gus Yaki, 243-2248, to ensure 
vehicle space for return.
      Thu Apr 3, 9am: Birding Weaselhead Natural Area. Meet parking lot, 37 
St & 66 Av SW. Leader, Bruce Barnetson, 246-1329.
      Sat Apr 5, 7:30am: Birding Frank Lake for swans, ducks, early 
migrants. Meet Anderson LRT (Macleod Tr), S of pedestrian overpass, for

      Sat Apr 5, 9am: Trumpeter Swans Outing, also daily during their 
migration. In addition, if able to make a full day, extend travel eastward 
to study & compare behaviour of Tundra Swans. Meet Petro-Canada Service Stn,

Inglewood Bird Sanctuary is a City of Calgary Natural Area. Staff offer
information, courses and field trips relating to natural history. For
information call 311 during office hours and ask for the Inglewood Bird
Sanctuary.

Nature Calgary (Calgary Field Naturalists' Society) promotes the
observation, study and conservation of the native habitat through lectures,
field trips and collection of scientific data. For membership or event
