Bird Sightings:

Mar 9:
A WESTERN MEADOWLARK  just south of High River; Chuck Svoboda

Mar 10:
A GYRFALCON, 7 GOLDEN EAGLES, 10 BALD EAGLES, 8 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS  off Hwy 22
while travelling south of Longview; Dwight Knapik.

Mar 11:
A LESSER SCAUP  seen  with SWANS , NORTHERN PINTAILS and AMERICAN WIGEONS at
Frank Lake  on Hwy 23 east of High River; Lois and Bill Lang and Lorne Kingwell.
An immature GOLDEN EAGLE on the east side of Hwy 24 at Carseland;
Langs/Kingwell.
Two male SNOWY OWLS northwest of Strathmore, Eddy Matoud.

Mar 13:
A gray morph GYRFALCON  south of 114 Ave, west of RR 284  east of Calgary, Mike
Mulligan and Jerry Pilny.

Mar 14:
A GYRFALCON seen in the same general area as above, likely the same bird, Bill
Walker.
A KILLDEER on an island at the south end of Langdon Reservoir , southeast of
Calgary, as well as 150 CALIFORNIA GULLS, 2 HERRING GULLS, 5 NORTHERN PINTAILS
and 4 AMERICAN WIGEONS at Langdon Res.;  Andrew Slater.
A male EURASIAN WIGEON, 3 male AMERICAN WIGEONS, and a lone AMERICAN DIPPER
below the dam at Chain Lakes PP west of Nanton, at the Willow Creek picnic area;
 Peter Maksymiw.
2 MOUNTAIN CHICKADEES  in the west central area of the Weaselhead, south
Calgary; Steve Kassai (sp?)

BIRD STUDY GROUP - Meet September - May, 7:30 PM on the 1st Wednesday of 
the month, Room 211, BioSciences Bldg, University of Calgary. Doors open 
at 7:00 pm.

"A tail of two Warbling Vireo species in Alberta?"

Nature Calgary Field Trips:

Fri Mar 19, 8:30pm: Watch for Northern Flying Squirrels and other nocturnal
life. Bring flashlight. Meet Weaselhead parking lot, 37 St & 66 Av SW. Leader,
Gus Yaki,

Sun Mar 21, 9:30am: Peak of Golden Eagle Migration, Mt. Lorette, Kananaskis
Country. Bring lunch, warm clothing. Meet Assumption School, 34th Av NW (NW
corner of Sarcee Tr, at Hwy 1). Leader, Andrew Hart, 403-279-5209.

Fri Mar 26, 9pm: Listen for Northern Saw-whet Owls, Sandy Beach Park. For the
past two years, these owls have been heard calling here. Meet at parking lot at
W end of Riverdale Av SW, W off Elbow Dr. Bring flashlight. Leader, Gus Yaki,
403-243-2248.

Sat Mar 27, 9am: Bird Glennfield area, FCPP, E of Macleod Tr, just S of Fish
Creek. From N, go S on Macleod Tr, turn right onto Bannister Rd, go under
Macleod Tr, then 1st left into FCPP. Meet at N end of 1st parking lot. Leader,
Wayne Hewitt, 403-256-7609.

Thu Apr 1, 8:30am: Monthly Elbow River Birding Survey. Meet Stanley Park, 42 Av
SW, just W of Macleod Tr. Walk to Glenmore Reservoir, ride back (3.5 hours).
Call leaders, Aileen Pelzer/Gus Yaki, 403-243-2248, to ensure vehicle space for
return.
