Welcome to the City of Calgary and Nature Calgary's (CFNS) Bird Alert.  This
Bird Alert was recorded on Monday, July 19, at 9:50 am.  To report a bird
sighting, leave a message after the beep at the end of the recording.  To bypass

Sightings for July 18
--WESTERN SANDPIPER (1) - seen by several observers on July 16, 17 & 18 at the
slough E of the railroad tracks at Shepherd in SE Calgary.
--SEMIPALMATED PLOVER (1) - as above.
--SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER (1 - 4 reported) -as above.
--LEAST SANDPIPER (2 - 10 reported) - as above.
--BAIRD'S SANDPIPER (2) - as above.
--LESSER YELLOWLEGS (4) - reported on the 17th.
--DOWITCHER SP (2) - reported on the 17th.
--PECTORAL SANDPIPER (1) - reported at the slough above on the 18th by Andrew
Slater.
--UPLAND SANDPIPER (1) - seen at Clear Lake 15 km E of Stavely on
RR261approximately halfway b/w TwpRd 140 & 142 by Terry Korolyk.

Sightings for July 16
--PEREGRINE FALCON (1) - seen at the slough E of Shepherd by TK and Joan &
Malcolm MacDonald.
--SANDHILL CRANE (5) - reported by Mary Jane Davies in her pasture on her
property NE of Cremona.  Anyone interested in seeing these birds call her at
403-337-3212.
--HERRING GULL (1) - has apparently been at a slough on Hwy 560 E of Calgary
since June 6.  TK watched the bird at the slough which is in the NE corner of
Hwy 560 & RR 284 junction and reports it may have a damaged R wing.
--NORTHERN GOSHAWK (1) - seen by Michael Breiteneder the past few days around
Twp Rd 250 & RR 280 junction E of Conrich which is located just NE of Calgary.

The next scheduled update of the Bird Alert is Thursday, July 22.

Sun Aug 1, 7am: Monthly Elbow River Birding Survey. Meet Stanley Park, 42 Av SW,
 just W of Macleod Tr. Walk to Glenmore Reservoir, ride back (3.5 hours). Call

return

Sat Aug 7, 8:30am: Bird Inglewood Bird Sanctuary, E end of 9 Av SE. Leader,

Sat Aug 14, 8:30am: Bird East of Calgary. Meet Carburn Park, S from Glenmore Tr
at 18 St SE to second stoplight, then right & follow signs, for car-pooling.

Sat Aug 14, 9am: Interested in learning the LICHENS, MOSSES & LIVERWORTS. Rain
date, Aug 21. Join leaders, Doug Waylett and Sandra Davis at Brown-Lowery
