This is the Seward, Alaska for May 1, 2003. On this day a Marbled Godwit showed
up at the beach at the end of the bay. Also, the first reported White-fronted
Goose was present.
On April 30, the first Black-bellied Plover was reported at the airport. The
29th had the first Dunlin, American Golden Plover - both at the ponds at the
airport, and a Common Loon at Bear Lake.
The 28th brought the first Least Sandpipers, while the 27th brought Rufous
Hummingbirds at several feeders in town, and Tree Swallows over the streets of
Seward. At the mouth of the bay, the first Tufted Puffins were seen at the base
of the cliffs.
The single Trumpeter Swan continues to be seen at the swamp along Nash Road, 1
mile off of Seward highway, and Trumpeter Swans have also been noted at Tern
Lake at mile 37.5.
Both Boreal and Saw-whet Owls are still singing in the evenings in Avalanche
Acres at mile 35 of the Seward Highway.
