Welcome to the Arkansas Rare Bird Alert for March 20, 2008, sponsored by the
Audubon Society of Central Arkansas (ASCA). ASCA meets at 7:00pm the second
Thursday of each month at the John Gould Fletcher Library, located at 823
Buchanan St. on the corner of Buchanan and H Streets in Little Rock. The next
meeting will be April 10th. The meeting topic will be “Ecology of Prescribed
Burning” presented by Roger Fryar, USDA Forest Service. The next field trip
will be April 12th to Cook’s Lake Conservation Education Center and the White
River NWR Visitor Center. This trip will leave from the south end of the
commuter parking lot at I-630 and Shackleford Rd in Little Rock at 7:00am.

From around the state recent sightings are:
At Lake Dardanelle, a Black-Backed Gull is being seen from Delaware Bay but was
not seen Wednesday, March 19th, and the Rock Wren is present at the dam.
A single White-winged Scoter was at Mallard Lake in Northwest Arkansas on
Wednesday, March 19, 2008. No cranes were found around Birdsong.
At Lake Maumelle, the Red-throated Loon was still present along with a male Surf
Scoter.
