** RARE BIRD ALERT for TUFTED DUCK (Vernon)

EURASIAN WIGEON (Kelowna)
MEW GULL (Kelowna)
LONG-BILLED CURLEW (Osoyoos)
AMERICAN THREE-TOED WOODPECKER (Lake Country)
BEWICK'S WREN (Kelowna)
CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEE (Kelowna)
WHITE-THROATED SPARROW (Kelowna)
WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL (Lake Country)
SNOW BUNTING (Lake Country)
 
 
Sightings for Mar 24
 
On March 23, a breeding plumage male TUFTED DUCK was found on O'keefe's Pond
near O'keefe's Ranch on Hwy 97, just N. of Vernon (GD,CS). The bird was actively
 feeding and was somewhat hard to see amongst a large flock of mixed diving
ducks.
 
In Westbank, a GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was seen with CANADA GEESE along
Gellatley Rd in the fields across from the Yacht Club on Mar 20 (GW).
 
Robert Lake continues to be a hotspot for waterforlw. A male EURASIAN WIGEON was
 again seen on March 24 amongst over a dozen species of assorted ducks (CC).
 
An adult MEW GULL was at the Kelowna Yacht Club on Saturday, March 22 (CC,RT).
 
On March 23, a LONG-BILLED CURLEW was seen over Kilpoola Lake in the South
Okanagan (DB).
 
The boreal forests E. of Lake Country along Beaver and Dee Lake roads were quite
 good for birds on March 22. Up to three AMERICAN THREE-TOED WOODPECKERS were
found along Dee Lake Road as was a calling WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL (CC,RT). A
CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEE was a nice surprise as well (CC,RT). Over the
grasslands on Beaver Lake Road a flock of 60 SNOW BUNTINGS passed by on Mar 22
(CC,RT).
 
Along the railroad tracks N. from Scandia Golf and Games in Kelowna, the
long-staying BEWICK'S WREN was again seen on March 22 (CC,RT).
 
The continuing WHITE-THROATED SPARROW on Dunsmuir Rd was seen well on March 22.
Dunsmuir Rd is off Hall Road in SE. Kelowna. (CC,RT).
