This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday February 27, 2008.  Please
 report sightings to Jon Fisher at 818-544-5009 or via e-mail to

At Piute Ponds, a TRUMPETER SWAN was found on February 23 and seen through
February 25.

NOTE:  These ponds are on Edwards Air Force Base property and there is
absolutely no admittance without a letter of permission.

A SNOW GOOSE continues at the Earvin Magic Johnson Recreation Area in
Willowbrook.

A BALD EAGLE near Big Dalton Canyon was seen again on February 23.  It was last
seen between the Glendora Ridge Morotway and Morris Dam.  A BALD EAGLE also
continues at Bonelli Park in San
Dimas.

A first year GLAUCOUS GULL continues at Castaic Lagoon and there was also a
second-hand report of a BALD EAGLE there.

A GRAY FLYCATCHER and a HAMMOND’S FLYCATCHER are still present at Peck Road
Water Conservation Park in Arcadia/Monrovia.  These birds are in the area west
and south of the restrooms.  The park is on Myrtle Avenue two miles south of the
 210 Freeway.

The THICK-BILLED KINGBIRD at Banning Park in Wilmingtin was seen again on
February 23.  At that time is was on the west side of the park near the
playground.

A WESTERN KINGBIRD was at El Dorado Park in Long Beach on February 23.  The bird
 was in Area 3 near the lake.

The PAINTED REDSTART continues near Restroom #8 at Bonelli Park in San Dimas.

Two WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS were reported.  One was a new bird a Bee Canyon Park
 in Granada Hills.  This location is west of Balboa on the south side of Orozco.
  The bird was near the east end of the park on the north side of the small
stream.

The other WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was a continuing bird at Eaton Canyon in
Pasadena.  This bird is being seen in the area immediately west of the Nature
Center.

Small numbers of RED CROSSBILLS are still being seen at Apollo Park in
Lancaster.  The latest report was of two flocks on February 23.
