A TRUMPETER SWAN at Piute Ponds on Edwards Air Force Base continued through
March 9. Remember that access to these ponds is prohibited without a letter of
permission.

Another swan, presumably a TUNDRA SWAN, was at the Sepulveda Basin Wildife
Reserve lake near Van Nuys on March 12.

Two EURASIAN WIGEONS turned up this past week, with one at the San Gabriel River
settling ponds on March 8. These ponds are on the west side of the river north
of Washington Blvd in Pico Rivera. The second EURASIAN WIGEON was along the
Los Angeles River adjacent to the Bette Davis Picnic Area in Glendale on March
10. The picnic area is at the corner of Victory and Riverside.

A LONG-TAILED DUCK continued through March 10 at the Ballona Creek mouth in
Marina del Rey. Access is through Playa del Rey at the north end of Pacific
Ave. on the south side of Ballona Creek.

A FERRUGINOUS HAWK and a BURROWING OWL continue at Playa del Rey, both being
last seen on March 10. Take Rindge Avenue to its end at Napoleon Street. Take
Napoleon to the end and park. Walk up to the fence bordering LAX and look for
the birds in this area.

A YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER continues at the Village Green Condominiums. It was
last seen on March 13. The bird is usually seen in the orchid tree near unit
#5554. The condos are in Los Angeles on Rodeo Road west of La Brea. This is
private property but birders are welcome. Please the thoughtful of the
residents.

A GRAY FLYCATCHER continues at Kenneth Hahn Park. This bird is in the upper
level of the park near the ‘bowl’. The park is located in Baldwin Hills on S.
La Cienega.

A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER was at the extreme north end of El Dorado Park in Long
Beach on March 10. A WHITE-HEADED WOODPECKER continues at El Dorado Park in
Area 3, north of the Ranger Station.

The PAINTED REDSTART continues near Restroom #8 at Bonelli Regional Park in San
Dimas.

RED CROSSBILLS continue at Apollo Park in Lancaster. A dozen birds were seen at
the park on March 9, including a female carrying nest material. Breeding is to
 be watched for here.

This report is sponsored by the Los Angeles Audubon Society.
