This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for Thursday March 27, 2008. Please
report sightings to Jon Fisher at 818-544-5009 or via e-mail to
JonF60@hotmail.com

A WHITE-WINGED SCOTER was at the Ballona Creek mouth on March 21 and a
LONG-TAILED DUCK was still present there through March 25. Easiest access is at
the north end of Pacific Ave. in Playa del Rey. Park where possible and
continue on foot to bird the jetties.

Just south of here, a BLACK SCOTER was visible from Dockweiler State Beach on
March 26. The bird was best viewed from near lifeguard platform #58 below the
Hyperion parking lot. This lot is between Imperial Highway and Grand.

SWAINSON’S HAWKS continue to be seen moving north. A flock of 18 birds was over
Santa Anita Canyon in Arcadia on March 26.

First of spring BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRDS (in Arcadia onMarch 26) and CALLIOPE
HUMMINGBIRDS (in Agua Dulce on March 24) were reported this past week.

The YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER at the Village Green Condominiums in Los Angeles
was seen through March 27. The condos are on Rodeo Road west of LaBrea. The
bird is most often seen in the orchid tree near unit #5554. This is private
property, but birders are welcome. Please be thoughtful of the residents.

This report is sponsored by the Los Angeles Audubon Society.
