This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for Thursday, February 11.
A male EURASIAN WIGEON continues on the LA River opposite the Bette Davis Picnic
Area in Glendale. It was last reported on February 7.
A male COMMON GOLDENEYE was on the lake at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas on
February 8.
An immature male LONG-TAILED DUCK was off Santa Monica Beach on September 7
north of lifeguard tower #11. Also present here were two BLACK SCOTERS (adult
males) and four WHITW-WINGED SCOTERS (3 imm. males and 1 presumed imm. female).
Off Dockweiler State Beach in El Segundo, four BLACK SCOTERS and five
WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS were present this week. The birds were mainly between
lifeguard tower #54 to #49. Street parking can be had nearby along Vista del
Mar.
BROWN PELICANS continued to turn up at inland locations and an unusual number of
dead birds have also been recorded.
The adult BALD EAGLE continues to be reported at Bonelli Regional Park in San
Dimas, often near the east shore RV Park where it may be roosting.
Also at Bonelli and very unusual inland was an adult HEERMANN’S GULL on February
10 and 11.
An adult male YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER continues at Ed Vincent Park in
Inglewood. It is usually in the silk oaks near the tennis courts.
A female YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER continues at Lindberg Park in Culver City. It
is most often seen in the part of the park opposite 10963 Ocean Drive. Check
the Camphor and orchid tree in this area first, before searching elsewhere.
A RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER continues at the Village Green Condominiums in Los
Angeles. These condos are southwest of LaBrea and Rodeo Road. The bird is most
often seen in the second Carob tree west of Rodeo Road and Ridgley in the
northwest corner of the property.
A HAMMOND’S FLYCATCHER was at South Gate Park on February 8. The park is on
Tweedy, west of Atlantic. The bird was north of the orange playground area on
the southwest part of the park.
Several MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRDS were present through February 11 on the north side of
Brackett Field in La Verne. Access is at the west end of McKinley, west of
Fairplex Drive.
A female HOODED ORIOLE was seen at West Los Angeles College on February 7. This
bird was along Freshman Drive.
VENTURA COUNTY—
A SAGE THRASHER continues at the end of Arnold Road on the Oxnard Plain.
A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER continues at Camino Real Park in Ventura. It was last
seen on February
