This is a summary of reports from the Northern California
BirdBox, sponsored by the Golden Gate Audubon Society, compiled
12 June 2009 at 08:15 p.m.
Highlights: OVENBIRD, INDIGO BUNTING, ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK.
San Mateo Co.
-------------
On Jun 10, the OVENBIRD continues along the lower reach of Butano
Fire Road in Butano State Park. It was along the drainage that is
located just over 0.3 mile up from Cloverdale Road. If walking up from
Cloverdale, go until the road enters the first patch of forest
(dominated by coast live oak) and the bird was down slope on the right a
short way after you enter the oaks. (Leonie Batkin, David Suddjian)
Santa Clara Co.
---------------
On Jun 10, a ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was seen coming to a backyard feeder
at 381 North 19th Street in downtown San Jose. (Vicky Ortiz)
Solano Co.
----------
On Jun 11, a male and female INDIGO BUNTING were seen on Brown Road, east
of Hwy 113. Brown Road is north of Jepson Prairie. Stay on the road.
The birds disappeared towards the south and west direction, so we don't
recommend going to Brown Road to look for the birds. We looked for them in
Jepson Prairie and other areas, but no luck. If you do go to Brown Road,
please stay on the road and not enter the private property to the north
unless you have the owners' permission.
(Lillian Fujii, Steve Hayashi)
