Codes for Birders in Orange County: channel 11 subcode 22 (national code).
We have a new accessory website that has recent photos of rarities (when
submitted) and maps of some birding spots in the County, including a map of
Huntington Central Park showing the "local" names for birding areas at:
http://members.cox.net/orcorba/
Observers: Shirley Reynolds, Bettina Eastman, Robert McNab, Neil Gilbert
Last weekend 15 YELLOW WARBLERS were found along Aliso Creek (Alicia Parkway
bike paths) from Aliso Creek Road to just beyond Moulton Parkway. Also
along "West Ridge Trail" at the 2 mile marker were 3 CACTUS WRENS and one
heard CANYON WREN.
On private property on the 20th was a male INDIGO BUNTING
A drive up Silverado Canyon (Maple Springs Road) to the Main Divide on the
early morning of 6/20 revelaed possible nesting BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER
(around Maple Springs) and a nest of OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER (about a mile
above Maple Springs). The mountain areas of Orange County are underbirded
so these observations were very interesting.
On the 21st a sea-watch from the Dana Point Headlands before 8:30 AM
revealed the 2nd Orange County record of BLACK-FOOTED ALBATROSS, about 1-2
miles offshore, as well as SOOTY and PINK-FOOTED SHEARWATERS, and BLACK
STORM-PETRELS.
