This is the Santa Barbara Audubon Society's rare bird report being recorded
on Friday, April 25 at 3:30 p.m. If you have a rare bird sighting to report,
call Karen Bridgers at 964-1316. For those of you who are getting the
transcript on the Internet, the rare bird alert number for Santa Barbara is
(805) 964-8240.
Along Farren Road in west Goleta, two LEWIS'S WOODPECKERS, a GRASSHOPPER
SPARROW, a BLUE GROSBEAK and COMMON RAVENS were present last weekend.
Two GREATER SCAUP were at Devereux Slough on Monday
SURFBIRDS continue to be seen on the rocks below UCSB's Campus Point this
week. On Monday, a BLACK OYSTERCATCHER came in.
A YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD was at the Goleta Sewage Plant on Tuesday.
[A COMMON MOORHEN was reported today from the east end of the footbridge at
the north end of Lake Los Carneros in Goleta.]
There are still two ROSS'S GEESE in the pond at the Rancho Goleta mobile
home park at the end of Ward Drive in Goleta.
Highlights at Cachuma Lake this week included an adult and an immature BALD
EAGLE and six WOOD DUCKS.
On the 20th, on the Aliso Loop Trail out of the Sage Hill Campground on
Paradise Road, two BLACK-CHINNED SPARROWS and a few COSTA'S HUMMINGBIRDS
were seen.
In the North County, an INDIGO BUNTING was reported on Wednesday at Barka
Slough, about a half mile east on San Antonio Road.
Along Zaca Station Road, about a mile east of Highway 154, 3 LEWIS'S
WOODPECKERS and a GOLDEN EAGLE were seen just past the power station
yesterday.
PURPLE MARTINS have returned to the Alisal Ranch area of Solvang, with a
dozen of the birds seen on March 28.
More than 20 YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS were at the Santa Maria Sewage Plant
on Black Road on Monday.
At Waller Park in Santa Maria, a SNOW GOOSE, a ROSS'S GOOSE and the CACKLING
GOOSE were still in the front pond on the 14th. Note also that LAWRENCE'S
GOLDFINCHES breed in the park.
That is all the bird news for now, but, again, if you have a rare sighting
to report, call Karen Bridgers at 964-1316. Good birding in Santa Barbara
County.
