This is the Santa Barbara Audubon Society's rare bird report being recorded
on Friday, May 29 at 2:30 p.m. If you have a rare bird sighting to report,
call Karen Bridgers at 964-1316. For those of you who are getting the
transcript on the Internet, the rare bird alert number for Santa Barbara is
(805) 964-8240.

Yesterday morning, on the UCSB campus, between the Mesa parking structure
and the Student Affairs building, a male SUMMER TANAGER was singing in the
eucalyptus trees.

On Tuesday, a male AMERICAN REDSTART was on Atascadero Creek, about 40 yards
upcreek from the debris dam at the lower end.

The adult BALD EAGLE remains at the Santa Barbara Cemetery, in the cypress
at the south end. That bird was seen this morning.

More Mesa still had two YELLOW-BREASTED CHATS on Monday.

On Carpinteria Creek, just above the 8th Street bike bridge, a male SUMMER
TANAGER was seen on the 24th.

A GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was singing on Ellwood Mesa on the 19th, around the
fenced restoration area in the southeastern portion.

Two GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS were observed along Farren Road in Goleta on the
23rd.

There are still two ROSS'S GEESE in the pond at the Rancho Goleta mobile
home park at the end of Ward Drive in Goleta.

In the North County, PURPLE MARTINS have returned, with several seen at
Nojoqui Falls Park on the 11th.

In Waller Park in Santa Maria, the SNOW GOOSE, the ROSS'S GOOSE, and the
CACKLING GOOSE are still in the front pond.

That is all the bird news for now, but, again, if you have a rare sighting
to report, call Karen Bridgers at 964-1316. Good birding in Santa Barbara
County.
