This is the Colorado Rare Bird Alert for Tuesday, June 20, sponsored by 
Denver Field Ornithologists and the Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory.

Highlight species include: Green Heron, Caspian Tern, Red-bellied Woodpecker, 
American Three-toed Woodpecker, Eastern Phoebe, Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, 
Phainopepla, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Ovenbird, Hooded Warbler, Summer 
Tanager, Fox Sparrow, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Painted Bunting, Eastern
Meadowlark,
and Hooded Oriole.

Arapahoe County:
--A GREEN HERON is been seen regularly at a Townhouse Complex in Littleton. 
If you would like to try to see it contact Deb Carstensen at 303-797-9312.

Baca County:
--At Two Buttes SWA, Moss reported an EASTERN PHOEBE on June 17.
--A female HOODED WARBLER was reported by Larson at Burchfield SWA, which is 
east of Walsh on June 17.

Boulder County:
--A BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER was reported by Sparn near 14th and Aurora in 
Boulder on June 11.
--A GREEN HERON was refound by Ellis at Cottonwood Marsh on June 17.
--Plage reported that a male ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK flew over the 3rd hole of 
Haystack Golf course on June 18.

Douglas County:
--A possible SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER was reported by Carstensen near 
COLO
Range Road as Titan Road make a sharp turn south and turns into Rampart Range
Road.

Fremont County:
--A singing HOODED WARBLER was reported by Miller along the Bluff Trail 
segment of the Arkansas River in Canon City on June 14. It was about 200 yards
west
of the Bluff Trail 0.5 mile marker.

Jefferson County:
--A Pacific Race FOX SPARROW was reported by Hansley at Golden Gate Canyon 
State Park downhill from the Visitor Center Parking Lot on June 17.

Larimer County:
--An AMERICAN THREE-TOED WOODPECKER was reported by Baker in Rocky Mountain 
National Park on June 17.  It was up the small road at the end of the 
Endovalley picnic area.
--GREEN HERONS were reported by Kogler at Big Thompson Ponds near Loveland on 
June 19.

Las Animas County:
--PAINTED BUNTINGS are being seen near Cottonwood Canyon Campground.  The 
last report was from Larson who saw two males and a female on June 16-17.
EASTERN
PHOEBES are also being seen in Cottonwood Canyon.

Montezuma County:
--An OVENBIRD was discovered by Jan and John Rees near Mancos on June 10. It 
is still present as of June 18.  For directions contact Susan Allerton at 
sallertonATearthlink.net or Jim Beatty at jdbeattyATbresnan.net.
--A male HOODED ORIOLE was reported by Erthal and Roller west of Cortez on 
June 18.  HOODED ORIOLE is not currently on the state list.  From the traffic 
light at the west end of Main Street (Hwy 160) in Cortez, set the odometer to 
COLO
Creek Road.  Turn right and go west on McElmo Creek Road 18.8 miles.  There is 
a house located back off of the north side of the road.  There is a long 
driveway line with hedges with orange trumpet flowers.  The Oriole was seen
again
on June 19.

Prowers County:
--A RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER was reported by Moss at the Lamar Community 
College Woods on June 16.

Pueblo County:
--A PHAINOPEPLA was found by Ackley on June 10 and reported by Peterson on 
June 15 in Beulah.  From Hwy 78 and 3R Rd go 6.8 miles to the spot where the 
bird was found.  The bird was refound around for a short time early on June 18.
--A CASPIAN TERN was reported by Percival at Pueblo Reservoir on a small 
island with gulls in the southeast corner on June 18.
--An EASTERN MEADOWLARK was reported by Silverman about 0.25 of a mile west 
of the Colorado City Cemetery on June 19.

The field trip for Saturday, June 24, is a training trip for the second 
Colorado Breeding Bird Atlas to Golden Gate State Park.  Meet the leaders Hugh
and
Urling Kingery, Meredith Anderson and Mike Serruto at 0700 at the RTD parking 
lot, 120th and Huron.  From I-25, take Exit 223 and go west on 120th Ave half 
a mile.  Lot is on the southeast corner.  The second breeding bird atlas will 
start field work in 2007.  On this trip Urling and Hugh will preview atlasing 
protocol and techniques.  Meredith Anderson and Mike Serruto volunteer as 
raptor surveyors for the park and they will show us around the park.  The trip 
will involve some hiking over rough ground in several different habitats.  Bring
lunch, water, binoculars, field guides.  Call 303-280-8576 for more

The field trip for Sunday, June 25, is to the Alfred M. Bailey Nesting Area 
COLO
lot in Silverthorne.  Prepare for weather and bring lunch.  Call Allison at 
303-888-5110 for more information.
