This is the CONNECTICUT RARE BIRD ALERT for January 9, 2008.

Note: This is a summary of the rare birds in Connecticut over the past
week or more. A daily email list, sponsored by the Connecticut
Ornithological Association (COA), is also available. See the note at
the end of this report for more details.

Compiler: Nick Bonomo (nbonomo*at*gmail.com)

Any questions, comments, or corrections should be addressed to the
compiler at the given email address.

Species list:
BOHEMIAN WAXWING
HOARY REDPOLL

BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS have been sporadically reported in the northwest
part of the state, in very small numbers, with the first being seen on
December 22, 2007. The most recent report was of 6 birds in Norfolk on
January 7, 2008.

This winter's redpoll invasion has resulted in the state's first
documented HOARY REDPOLLS since 1983. Single birds have been seen in
Coventry, Barkhamsted, and Canton.

Both of the above species are REVIEW SPECIES in Connecticut. All
observers should submit documentation of these birds. For directions
on writing and submitting reports, go to
http://ctbirding.org/rare_report.htm. All observers are encouraged to
submit a detailed report. Thank you!

Ornithological Association. The COA is the only statewide
organization dedicated specifically to Connecticut's birds, birders,
and birding. For further information about the COA see our web site
at http://www.ctbirding.org/.

Reports should be sent to CTBirdReport@msbx.net. Reports are compiled
into a daily report, and summarized weekly (or as needed) to this RBA.
