This is the CONNECTICUT RARE BIRD ALERT for February 7, 2008.

Note: This is a summary of the rare birds in Connecticut over the past
week or more. A daily email list, sponsored by the Connecticut
Ornithological Association (COA), is also available. See the note at
the end of this report for more details.

Species list:
BLACK GUILLEMOT
WESTERN TANAGER
YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD

A first-year BLACK GUILLEMOT was seen flying past the end of Stamford
Avenue in Stamford on the 2nd. The bird was flying east and was not
relocated.

An immature male WESTERN TANAGER was found at Hammonasset State Park
in Madison on January 21st. It was seen in the eastern part of the
campground. It was regularly reported through at least February 3rd,
and it may still be in the area.

On February 1st a female YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD was seen among a
flock of 1000+ blackbirds along Vibert Road at Station 43 in South
Windsor. It has not been reported since.

Black Guillemot and Western Tanager are REVIEW SPECIES in Connecticut.
All observers should submit documentation of these birds. For
