At Elsen's Hill on May 20th, birds near the back pond included MOURNING
WARBLER, CANADA WARBLER, and WILSON'S WARBLER. CAPE MAY, GOLDEN-WINGED,
and YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT were also seen among about 22 species of warblers.
On May 21st at the Morton Arboretum, a pair of SUMMER TANAGERS was seen
about 100 yards east of parking 7 along Trail Loop 4. Further east,
where the trail comes near the prominent clearing, a singing CERULEAN
WARBLER was seen. In the northeast corner of the trail loop, a
WORM-EATING WARBLER and a flyover RED-SHOULDERED HAWK were seen. An
OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER was also seen in the afternoon, east of P-7.
At Pratt's Wayne Woods this past week, at least five BLACK TERNS were
seen at the corner marsh near Powis and Sterns. HENSLOW'S SPARROWS also
continue to be seen in multiple locations.
At Tri-County State Park, at least four YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS are
present at the marsh east of the parking lot (where the herons are nesting).
An OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER was seen at Springbrook Prairie on May 20th.
A SUMMER TANAGER was reported from a backyard in Wheaton this week.
____ KANE COUNTY ______________________________________
A MACGILLIVRAY'S WARBLER was located at Hampshire F.P. on May 21st, and
was still present on the afternoon of May 22nd. The bird is being seen
in low shrubs north of the horse trailer parking at the spot where 2
paths intersect in a T. If you take the main drive into the park,
follow the drive to the back parking lot. The spot is just north of
where the road makes a sharp left.
Hampshire F.P. is just west of Route 20 on Allen Rd (a mile or
two west of Route 47).
At Rutland F.P. on May 21st, birds seen included 3 CANADA WARBLERS,
WILSON'S WARBLER, VEERY, PHILADELPHIA VIREO, BLUE-HEADED VIREO,
YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO (15 species of warblers).
____ FERMILAB SIGHTINGS ________________________________
Recent sightings at FermiLab include YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER, SANDHILL
CRANES, HOODED MERGANSERS, ORCHARD ORIOLES, and SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER.

Take IL-83 south over DesPlaines River and the Sanitary Canal. Turn
right (west) onto Main St. at the intersection with Archer Ave. Proceed
a few miles until the Lemont Quarry sign and turn right. At the turn-off
corner there is a "Turnabout Pizza" place on the left side and K&S Steel
on the right side. Bear right to the main parking lot.
