____ DUPAGE COUNTY _____________________________________

The WESTERN KINGBIRD located at Poverty Prairie on July 13, has not been
relocated since.  Other breeding birds present in the area include
HENSLOW'S SPARROWS with young, ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKS, BLACK-BILLED
CUCKOO, MARSH WERENS, WHITE-EYED VIREOS (2 locations), CHESTNUT-SIDED
WARBLER, and PINE WARBLER (ranger's residence).  A second PINE WARBLER
was also located near the new Lemont Rd. parking lot.

On July 1, a EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE was seen calling from the top of a
power pole at the corner of 83rd St. and Mendingwall Dr. (about a
quarter mile east of Route 53).

At Greene Valley F.P. on July 1, the BELL'S VIREO was still present west
of campsite 7.  On July 2, two CLAY-COLORED SPARROWS were located.  One
   was east of Greene Road.  Heading east from the Greene Rd. parking
lot, follow the trail east until you reach a "Y"  take the left fork and
head north for about 100 feet.  The bird was calling about 50 feet west
of the trail.  The other was south of 79th St, East of the Thunderbird
camp lot.  From the trailhead by the parking lot, follow the left Fork
and head North.  The bird was seen and heard just north of where this
trail intersects with another trail.  (not until the trail winds around
almost behind the treeline.)  A a SUMMER TANAGER was also heard along
the tree line by the Greene Road parking lot and a dozen or so BOBOLINKS
were seen flying around landfill hill.  On July 7, a WHITE-EYED VIREO
was seen along the river path about a quarter mile south of 75th street.
  ORCHARD ORIOLES also continue to be seen.  A SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER
and four CASPIAN TERNS were seen at the 83rd Street Pond on July 23.

Recent sightings at Tri-County S.P. include DICKCISSELS (along the
entrance road, far west end of the parking lot in front of the visitors
center, and south & east of the back parking lot), SEDGE WRENS, and
BOBOLINKS.  At the marsh, birds include PIED-BILLED GREBES,
YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS, and BELTED KINGFISHER.  VIRGINIA RAILS, LEAST
BITTERN, and COMMON MOORHEN have been heard late in the evening.  As
many as three OSPREYS have been seen on at least three occasions around
the marsh.

Birds seen breeding at Herrick Lake this summer include 3-4 pairs of
ORCHARD ORIOLES, SEDGE WRENS, CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLERS with young,
OVENBIRDS, WOOD THRUSHES, EASTERN BLUEBIRDS, EASTERN TOWHEES,
ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKS.  Other birds on territory include 2 WHITE-EYED
VIREOS, BLUE-WINGED WARBLER, 2 YELLOW-BREASTED CHATS, HOODED WARBLER,
GRASSHOPPER SPARROW, YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO, BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO, AMERICAN
REDSTART, and RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRDS.

At Danada "West" F.P. (west of the headquarters building), birds seen
this summer include 2 YELLOW-BREASTED CHATS, 2 BELL'S VIREOS, WHITE-EYED
VIREO, and other common shrubland birds.

At Winfield Mounds, YELLOW-BREASTED CHATS have been seen in three
locations, and CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLERS in two different locations.

At Elsen's Hill F.P., about 12 WOOD THRUSHES have been heard singing on
territory.  Other breeding birds include SCARLET TANAGERS, ROSE-BREASTED
GROSBEAKS, and GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHERS.

The two male RING-NECKED DUCKS were still present at the pond south of
103rd Street and west of Woodward Avenue as of July 15.

At least 30 PURPLE MARTINS are present at Armstrong Park in Carol
Stream.  DIRECTIONS: From RT 64, go north on Kuhn Rd. (between County
Farm Road and Gary Ave.).  Turn left on Mohican Rd. and follow it to the
end (For more parking, follow the curve to the left then turn right.)
Take the paved path south and look for the martin houses on an island in
a small lake to your west.

____ KANE COUNTY _______________________________________

Recent sightings at from the east end of Nelson Lake Marsh (Dick Young
FP) include SEDGE WRENS, and YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO.  Along the trail
through the west grasslands, birds seen include HENSLOW'S SPARROWS,
GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS, and BOBOLINKS.

On July 25 at the Kaneland Ponds (Keslinger & Dauberman Rd.), shorebirds
included a DOWITCHER SP., one GREATER YELLOWLEGS, LESSER YELLOWLEGS,
PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, and LEAST SANDPIPERS.

At a pond near the Soccer Fields along Peck Road, a STILT SANDPIPER was
seen.

On July 7, a WHITE-EYED VIREO was seen at Big Rock F.P. along the west
end of the trail around the quarry (just after the trail turns north).

RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS with young are being seen at Bluff Springs Fen.

____ FERMILAB SIGHTINGS ________________________________

On July 23 and July 24, a KING RAIL with two chicks was seen at Lake
Logo in the Main Ring (Restricted Area).

A BELL'S VIREO continues to be seen along the easternmost trail south of
Lake Law.  SEDGE WRENS and MARSH WRENS are also present. South-west of
Lake Law, HENSLOW'S SPARROWS and one GRASSHOPPER SPARROW were present in
the grassland.

DICKCISSELS continue to be heard and seen along Batavia Rd. near the dog
training area, just east of Eola Rd.

that you are there for bird-watching. You may be required to show your

Saturday, August 12, 8:00 a.m. Blackwell F.P.
This trip will be for possible shorebirds, grassland birds, and whatever
else may be around. Bring your own lunch for a picnic after the walk.
Meet in the third parking lot on the right side of the road, near the
boat rental cabin. Enter the forest preserve on the north side of
Butterfield Road between Winfield Rd. and Batavia Rd.
