Welcome to the Arkansas Rare Bird Alert for January 17, 2010, sponsored by the
Audubon Society of Central Arkansas (ASCA). ASCA meets at 7:00pm the second
Thursday of each month. Check the www.ascabird.org website for details on
upcoming meetings and field trips.

From around the state recent sightings are:

At Lake Dardanelle, a first-winter Lesser Black-backed Gull was near Delaware
Rec Area, and an adult had also been seen in the same location. At the dam, an
adult Laughing Gull can be seen.

A Rough-Legged Hawk has been seen at Holla Bend NWR.

A Rough-legged Hawk was also seen on Highway 62 in Summers (Washington Co.) near
 the border with Oklahoma.

A Short-eared Owl was seen at Rick Evans Grandview Prairie in Hempstead County.

Short-eared Owls have also been seen in the field East of Woolsey Wet Prairie.

Two Common Mergansers, Greater Scaup, and a Common Goldeneye have been seen at
Lake Atalanta in Rogers.

On Clint Henderson Road in northeast Jefferson county, three juvenile White Ibis
 were seen.

Trumpeter Swans are at Lake Magness near Heber Springs for the winter. For ABA
listers, these are countable birds, since they are not released/introduced birds
and are part of an established migratory population.

Thanks for calling the Arkansas Rare Bird Alert. Your contributions make the
Rare Bird Aert possible. If you would like to leave a message, please wait for
the chirp. Good Birding!
