Welcome to the Arkansas Rare Bird Alert for August 13, 2010, sponsored by the
Audubon Society of Central Arkansas (ASCA). ASCA meets at 7:00pm the second
Thursday of each month. The next field trip is September 18, 2010, to Bell

south of MayflowerCheck the www.ascabird.org website for details on upcoming
meetings and field trips.
From around the state recent sightings are:
On Hwy 95 betweenCleveland and Wonderview in Conway County, a Swallow-tailed
Kite was observed.
On the Levee Rd. near Eudora on the east side of the levee, about 0.5 mile south
of the Hwy. 8-Levee Rd. junction, seven Roseate Spoonbills were seen. Wood

be seen in the area.
At Bald Knob NWR in White County, Buff-breasted Sandpiper and Ruddy
Turnstonewere reported near the grain bins. Also on the refuge are Great Blue
Heron, Little Blue Heron, Cattle Egret, Great Egret, Snowy Egret, Yellow-crowned
Night-Heron, Black-crowned Night-Heron, Semipalmated Plover, Black-necked Stilt,
Greater Yellowlegs, , Semipalmated Sandpiper, Least Sandpiper, Pectoral
Sandpiper, Short-billed Dowitcher, Long-billed Dowitcher, Snow Goose, Northern
Pintail and, of course, Killdeer.
On the turf farms and croplands between Van Buren and Alma, including Frog Bayou
WMA, Upland Sandpipers, Buff-breasted Sandpipers and White Ibis can be found. In
the same area, Black-bellied Whistling-Ducks are near the Alma sewer ponds &
King Ranch.
