Welcome to the Arkansas Rare Bird Alert for August 20, 2010, sponsored by the
Audubon Society of Central Arkansas (ASCA). ASCA meets at 7:00pm the second
Thursday of each month. The next field trip is Saturday, August 21, 2010, to the
KSST
at 7:00 a.m. in North Little Rock at the Other Center parking lot on the east
side of the lot behind McDonald’s. Check the www.ascabird.org website for
details on upcoming meetings and field trips.
From around the state recent sightings are:
KSST
August 4. This household hosted an adult male Rufous this past winter, which was
a bird that had already been banded the previous winter in Louisiana.
Confirmation is pending.
A possible Swallow-tailed Kite was reported at the Potlatch Cypress Bend Mill in
Desha County.
On the Mississippi Levee Road from the Louisiana border to the Lake Chicot
Pumping Station, the following species continue to be reported: Roseate
Spoonbill, White-faced Ibis, Mottled Duck, Upland Sandpiper, Wood Stork,
and
Snow Goose.
At Frog Bayou WMA (south of Dyer) a White Ibis was with a White-faced Ibis.
There were also 2-3 Upland Sandpipers along with other shorebirds. At
West-Ark
Sod Farm (corner of Crawford & Westville, south of Kibler) Upland Sandpipers
and Buff-breasted Sandpipers are being seen.
KSST
Immature White Ibis, and Upland Sandpiper, a variety of shorebirds are being
found on Bald Knob NRW, indicating that fall migration has begun.
At Centerton State Fish Hatchery in Northwest Arkansas, Least Terns were seen,
along with the expected shorebirds.
