This is the Kentucky rare bird alert, sponsored by the Kentucky
Ornithological Society. This update is current as of November 20, 2006
at 11:00 AM EDT. This is a summary of the sightings posted at
http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos.htm , with additional information on the
location and/or dates of the rare and unusual. The highlights of this
update are:
A single late COMMON NIGHTHAWK was seen in Somerset (Pulaski Co) area on
the 17th.
The TUNDRA SWANS have returned to the Henderson Sloughs by the 17th in a
quantity of 10 so far. Also seen there were good numbers of
WHITE-FRONTED GEESE and some LAPLAND LONGSPURS mixed with a flock of
Horned Lark
A single RED-NECKED GREBE was viewed on the Ohio River on the morning of
the 19th near Towhead Island in Louisville.
1 COMMON RAVEN seen twice or 2 COMMON RAVENS were observed at Pine Mt.
State Park on 18th.
A blue phase SNOW GOOSE was a fly over on I-75 near mile maker 53 on the
18th, and 5 SANDHILL CRANES were seen by the same motorist in a fly over
near Shelbyville.
Lastly, an AMERICAN WOODCOCK was flushed in Logan County on Saturday the
18th.
