EASTERN MASSACHUSETTS -
This is the Voice of Audubon for Monday, March 24.
Weekend reports from the Newburyport/Plum Island area included 1
GREAT
EGRET, 3 BALD EAGLES, 1 OSPREY, 1 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, 5
NORTHERN HARRIERS, 7 PIPING PLOVERS, 1 SNOWY OWL, 2 SHORT-
EARED OWLS, and a NORTHERN SHRIKE, and at Bolton Flats there were
54 WOOD DUCKS, roughly 700 MALLARDS, 30 NORTHERN PINTAILS,
88 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 1 KILLDEER, and 2 AMERICAN WOODCOCKS.
Seen at various points along the Sudbury River between Sudbury and
Wayland
were 25 WOOD DUCKS, a NORTHERN SHOVELER, 30 GREEN-WINGED
TEAL, 2 NORTHERN FLICKERS, 1 COMMON RAVEN, and 5 RUSTY
BLACKBIRDS, and at Nine-Acre-Corner in Concord there were 80 GREEN-
WINGED TEAL, 2 AMERICAN WIGEON, 119 NORTHERN PINTAILS,
5 KILLDEER, and 8 HORNED LARKS.
Recent reports from Nantucket have included 8 HARLEQUIN DUCKS, 1
SNOWY EGRET, 2 BALD EAGLES, 1 OSPREY, 1 PIPING PLOVER, 7
AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHERS, 75 ICELAND GULLS, 100 LESSER
BLACK-BACKED GULLS, 1 GLAUCOUS GULL, 1 THAYER'S GULL,
1 SNOWY OWL, 1 YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, 2 EASTERN
PHOEBES, 1 AMERICAN PIPIT, 1 ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER,
2 PINE WARBLERS, an early NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH, and 1
WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW.
Seen at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Mattapan were 1 DOUBLE-CRESTED
CORMORANT, 1 KILLDEER, 1 TREE SWALLOW, 1 BOHEMIAN
WAXWING, 2 FOX SPARROWS, 20 COMMON REDPOLLS, and 1
HOARY REDPOLL, and miscellaneous reports from the weekend included
4 CANVASBACKS and a NORTHERN SHRIKE at the Cherry Hill
Reservoir in West Newbury, 15 FISH CROWS in Topsfield, 60 RED-
NECKED GREBES and 3 AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHERS in Winthrop,
a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK in Salem, a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT
in Marblehead, a NORTHERN HARRIER, 2 WILSON'S SNIPE, and
a SHORT-EARED OWL at Belle Isle Marsh in East Boston, a ROUGH-
LEGGED HAWK at Spectacle Island in Boston Harbor, 2 CHIPPING
SPARROWS and an EASTERN TOWHEE in Jamaica Plain, 2 CANVAS-
BACKS in Belmont, 100 RING-NECKED DUCKS and 2 AMERICAN
COOTS at the Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge in Concord, 4
CANVASBACKS at Sunset Lake in Braintree, 4 FISH CROWS in Scituate,
a GREAT EGRET and an AMERICAN PIPIT in Duxbury, 800 RING-
NECKED DUCKS and 2 BALD EAGLES at the Burrage Pond Wildlife
Management Area in Hanson, 40 RUDDY DUCKS in Pembroke, a EURASIAN
WIGEON and 400 RING-NECKED DUCKS at the West Meadows Wildlife
Management Area in West Bridgewater, 2 OSPREYS at the Daniel Webster
sanctuary in Marshfield, a PIPING PLOVER and 4 SNOW BUNTINGS at
Plymouth Beach, 2 BARROW'S GOLDENEYES, 2 AMERICAN OYSTER-
CATCHERS, and an EASTERN PHOEBE in Fairhaven, an OSPREY and
an ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER in Mashpee, and 4 LAUGHING
GULLS in Chatham.
