Reports this week from the Newburyport/Plum Island area included
roughly 2000 LONG-TAILED DUCKS, 1 AMERICAN BITTERN, 2 TRICOLORED
HERONS, a two day total of 32 migrating AMERICAN KESTRELS and 19
migrating MERLINS, 1 SOLITARY SANDPIPER, 1 LEAST SANDPIPER, 1 LAUGHING
GULL, 1 WHIP-POOR-WILL, 1 CLIFF SWALLOW, 1 VEERY, and 1 YELLOW WARBLER.
Seen in Provincetown were 25 ICELAND GULLS, 4 GLAUCOUS GULLS, 4 LESSER
BLACK-BACKED GULLS, 4 BLUE-HEADED VIREOS, 1 WHITE-EYED VIREO, 1
NORTHERN PARULA, 30 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, 7 BLACK-THROATED GREEN
WARBLERS, 10 PINE WARBLERS, 4 BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS, 1 HOODED
WARBLER, and 1 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW belonging to the Gambel’s race.
Noted at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge this week were 1 EASTERN
KINGBIRD, 1 NASHVILLE WARBLER, 2 OVENBIRDS, 1 NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH, 1
BROAD-WINGED HAWK, 1 BROWN THRASHER, 1 NASHVILLE WARBLER, 1 GRAY
CATBIRD, 1 ORCHARD ORIOLE, and 1 BALTIMORE ORIOLE, and at the Great
Meadows refuge in Concord there were 25 WOOD DUCKS, 3 BLUE-WINGED
TEAL, 1 RED-BREASTED MERGANSER, 3 VIRGINIA RAILS, 1 SORA, 8 GREATER
YELLOWLEGS, 40 CHIMNEY SWIFTS, 35 BARN SWALLOWS, 4 BANK SWALLOWS, and
3 NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS.
Recent reports from Nantucket have included 2 NORTHERN PINTAILS, 25
WILLETS, 5 LEAST TERNS, 4 NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS, 5 WHITE-
CROWNED SPARROWS, 11 INDIGO BUNTINGS, 3 ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKS, and 4
BALTIMORE ORIOLES, and miscellaneous reports this week have included
the PROTHONOTARY WARBLER at Ells Pond in Melrose last reported on
Tuesday, a WILSON'S WARBLER in Medford, a MANX SHEARWATER, 40 PURPLE
SANDPIPERS, and 5 BLACK GUILLEMOTS at Andrew’s Point in Rockport, 2
WILSON'S PHALAROPES in Rowley, a WHITE-EYED VIREO in Nahant, a GREEN
HERON in Groton, an ORCHARD ORIOLE in Newbury, another ORCHARD ORIOLE
in Arlington, a BALTIMORE ORIOLE in Woburn, a ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK
in Westwood, 20 NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS and 1 CLIFF SWALLOW at
Millennium Park in West Roxbury, a SPOTTED SANDPIPER, a COMMON RAVEN,
and 5 YELLOW WARBLERS in Jamaica Plain, and a TRICOLORED HERON in
Mashpee.
