EASTERN MASSACHUSETTS

This is the Voice of Audubon for Monday, March 1.

The MEW GULL that's been present in Gloucester since November was 
last
reported on Friday at Nile's Pond in East Gloucester, and also seen 
in East
Gloucester were 26 ICELAND GULLS, 2 GLAUCOUS GULLS, and 3
DOVEKIES.

A WHITE-WINGED DOVE seen yesterday in flight from the Rt. 88 bridge
over the Westport River in Westport has not been reported since. Also 

seen yesterday in Westport were 1 MERLIN and 1 SHORT-EARED OWL.

Weekend reports from Plum Island included 1 SNOW GOOSE, 60 GADWALL,
40 NORTHERN PINTAILS, 1 PEREGRINE FALCON, 1 BLACK-LEGGED
KITTIWAKE, 1 ICELAND GULL, 30 RAZORBILLS, 1 SNOWY OWL, 1
SHORT-EARED OWL, 1 NORTHERN SHRIKE, and 2 RED-WINGED
BLACKBIRDS, and seen in Rockport were 22 BRANT, 1 LESSER SCAUP,
91 HARLEQUIN DUCKS, 325 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS, 95 BLACK
SCOTERS, 6 NORTHERN GANNETS, 1 THICK-BILLED MURRE,
and 19 RAZORBILLS.

At Nantucket there were 2 TUNDRA SWANS, 1 BARROW'S GOLDENEYE,
1 AMERICAN BITTERN, 1 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, 2 KILLDEER,
and 5 EASTERN MEADOWLARK.

Miscellaneous reports from the weekend included a SNOW GOOSE in
Concord, 5 BALD EAGLES in Sudbury, the over-wintering GREATER
WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE in Sharon, 2 HARLEQUIN DUCKS and a
KILLDEER in Plymouth, single  TURKEY VULTURES in Stoneham,
Concord, and Framingham, single OSPREYS in Newburyport and Mashpee,
and displaying AMERICAN WOODCOCKS at the Wellfleet Bay
sanctuary in South Wellfleet.

This Saturday, March 6, Mass Audubon and the Manomet Center for
Conservation Sciences will cosponsor the 18th annual Massachusetts
