WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS

This is the Western Voice of Audubon for Monday
March 4, 2008.

The snow and cold has kept birders from going
into the field much, but early arriving
blackbirds are still here, with many coming to
feeders. Also well reported are soaring TURKEY
VULTURES and flocks of ROBINS eating berries
and sumac.

Over the weekend and today 1-to-3 HOARY REDPOLLS
have been present with 30 COMMON REDPOLLS at a
feeder in Ashfield.

The BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS with a flock of CEDAR
WAXWINGS in Shelburne were down to one bird on
Wednesday and none were found after that.

A flock of 35 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS was found in
Windsor.

At Turners Falls there were still 9 PINE GROSBEAKS
and as many as 150 CEDAR WAXWINGS.

A flock of 128 WILD TURKEYS were noted in
Tyringham.

Two HOODED MERGANSERS and a BROWN CREEPER were
at Forest Park in Springfield, the PEREGRINE
FALCON was seen again on the Mueller bridge in
South Hadley, and a lone PINE SISKIN came to a
Southwick feeder.

A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was seen in Hadley, six
PINE GROSBEAKS were reported in Hatfield, and a
PINE SISKIN was seen in Shutesbury.

Observed in Belchertown were 9 HOODED MERGANSERS
and 3 GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS.

Seen in Northampton were 57 CEDAR WAXWINGS, a
NORTHERN FLICKER, and a WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW.

Thank you for calling
