WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS

This is the Western Voice of Audubon for Monday, June
29, 2009

A HENSLOW'S SPARROW has been present since Saturday
singing in a hayfield in Montague. The field is on
the north side of Meadow Road where it intersects
with North Taylor Hill Road.

Also in the Montague area there were 4 BLACK DUCKS, 2
SHARP-SHINNED HAWKS, a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, an
AMERICAN KESTREL, 7 ALDER FLYCATCHERS, 3 BROWN
CREEPERS, a BROWN THRASHER, and a BLACKPOLL WARBLER.

In central Quabbin there were 3 RUFFED GROUSE, an
ALDER FLYCATCHER, 16 LEAST FLYCATCHERS, 4 RED-
BREASTED NUTHATCHES, 4 GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS, 2
BLUE-WINGED WARBLERS, 7 BLACKBURNIAN WARBLERS, 4
PRAIRIE WARBLERS, a CERULEAN WARBLER, and a CANADA
WARBLER.

In Belchertown there were both ALDER and WILLOW
FLYCATCHERS.

Seen in Southwick were a COOPER'S HAWK family, an
AMERICAN KESTREL, an ALDER FLYCATCHER, 4 WILLOW
FLYCATCHERS, a BROWN THRASHER, 6 PRAIRIE WARBLERS, 8
FIELD SPARROWS, 3 SAVANNAH SPARROWS, 3 GRASSHOPPER
SPARROWS, 7 INDIGO BUNTINGS, an EASTERN MEADOWLARK,
and 2 PINE SISKINS.  The YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was
last reported on Saturday.

A survey of the towns of Adams and Cheshire turned up
2 BLACK VULTURES, 28 TURKEY VULTURES, a NORTHERN
GOSHAWK, a YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO, 9 LEAST FLYCATCHERS,
14 EASTERN KINGBIRDS, 150 CLIFF SWALLOWS, 120 BARN
SWALLOWS, 3 WINTER WRENS, 3 GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS,
4 MAGNOLIA WARBLERS, a LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH, 25
SAVANNAH SPARROWS, and 13 INDIGO BUNTINGS.
