WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS

This is the Western Voice of Audubon for Monday, August 9, 2010

A pair of KENTUCKY WARBLERS were reported foraging in a yard in the town
of Sheffield.

At a feeder in Whately on Saturday a total of 47 RUBY-THROATED
HUMMINGBIRDS were banded.

In Belchertown there were 3 BROAD-WINGED HAWKS, a AMERICAN
WOODCOCK, an OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER, 2 RED-BREASTED
NUTHATCHES and a BROWN THRASHER.

In central Quabbin there were 19 WOOD DUCKS, 5 HOODED MERGANSERS,
a COOPER'S HAWK, a YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO, 8 RUBY-THROATED
HUMMINGBIRDS, 2 LEAST FLYCATCHERS, 7 EASTERN KINGBIRDS, 15
RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES, 3 BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS, 2
GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS, 5 CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLERS, a
MAGNOLIA WARBLER, 3 BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLERS, 3
BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLERS, 12 BLACK AND WHITE
WARBLERS, 14 AMERICAN REDSTARTS, and 4 CANADA WARBLERS.

A GREAT EGRET was in Northampton, an OSPREY was in Granby, 2
AMERICAN BITTERNS and a PINE SISKIN were in Hadley, 24 WOOD
DUCKS and three GREAT EGRETS were in Longmeadow, and an AMERICAN
KESTREL was at Quabbin Park.

In west Quabbin there were 6 COMMON LOONS, a SPOTTED SANDPIPER, an
AMERICAN WOODCOCK, and 2 EASTERN WOOD-PEWEES.

At Gate 35 in north Quabbin there were 20 COMMON MERGANSERS, 7
COMMON LOONS, 2 BONAPARTE'S GULLS, 3 GREATER YELLOWLEGS,
20 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 10 LEAST SANDPIPERS, and a
NORTHERN PARULA.

In Tyringham there were 2 GREEN HERONS, a NORTHERN HARRIER, a
SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, an AMERICAN KESTREL, a GREATER
YELLOWLEGS, a SPOTTED SANDPIPER, 2 ALDER FLYCATCHERS, 19
EASTERN KINGBIRDS, a NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW, 5
CLIFF SWALLOWS, 223 BARN SWALLOWS, and 13 INDIGO BUNTINGS.
