WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS
This is the Western Voice of Audubon for Monday, August 23, 2010
At a pond in North Hadley there were 10 WOOD DUCKS, 2 GREEN-WINGED
TEAL, 3 GREAT EGRETS, 5 GREEN HERONS, 4 SOLITARY SANDPIPERS,
4 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 2 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER, 48 LEAST
SANDPIPERS, and a WILSON'S SNIPE.
At the north end of Quabbin there were 24 COMMON MERGANSERS, 17
COMMON LOONS, a BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, a PEREGRINE
FALCON, a MERLIN, 12 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 20 LEAST
SANDPIPERS, 12 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, a WHITE-RUMPED
SANDPIPER, a BONAPARTE’S GULL, a BLACK TERN, and a CANADA
WARBLER.
In Agawam there were 12 WOOD DUCKS, 6 GREAT EGRETS, a PEREGRINE
FALCON, 3 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, a SOLITARY SANDPIPER, a
LESSER YELLOWLEGS, a GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 16 LEAST
SANDPIPERS, and 50 BANK SWALLOWS.
In Deerfield there were 22 WOOD DUCKS, 3 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-
HERONS, 2 GREEN HERONS, a WILLOW FLYCATCHER, 5 EASTERN
KINGBIRDS, and 8 YELLOW WARBLERS.
In Longmeadow there were 31 WOOD DUCKS, 4 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 13
GREAT BLUE HERONS, 8 GREAT EGRETS, 3 SEMIPALMATED
PLOVERS, and an OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER.
Nine OSPREYS, 2 GREAT EGRETS, 112 COMMON NIGHTHAWKS, and 114
BOBOLINKS were in Northampton, 8 GREEN HERONS, and a GREAT
CRESTED FLYCATCHER were in Hatfield, and 229 COMMON
NIGHTHAWKS and a BROWN THRASHER were at Quabbin Park.
Two BLACK VULTURES were in Sandisfield, 14 COMMON LOONS, a RED-
SHOULDERED HAWK, and 3 CANADA WARBLERS were at west Quabbin,
and a GREAT EGRET was seen in Sunderland.
Seen in Belchertown were an EASTERN SCREECH-OWL, 58 COMMON
NIGHTHAWKS, a SOLITARY SANDPIPER, and a GREAT CRESTED
FLYCATCHER.
