Of Special Note

 

The KING EIDER in Cape Elizabeth has not been seen.  

 

RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS are returning.

 

DARK-EYED JUNCOS have reappeared at feeders in some southern and central
Maine locations.

 

Notable species mentioned include KILLDEER, FOX SPARROW, SWAMP SPARROW
and HOARY REDPOLL.

 

York County

 

March 6 marked the first report of a FOX SPARROW which arrived in a yard
in York. 

 

A RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD was noted in West Kennebunk on March 4.

 

Birds seen in Biddeford Pool on March 6 included a PEREGRINE FALCON, two
drake NORTHERN PINTAILS, four AMERICAN WIGEONS, and a COMMON GRACKLE.

 

Six PINE SISKINS, present for several weeks, continue at a feeder on
Hills Beach Road in Biddeford.

 

A TURKEY VULTURE was seen over the Saco River by the University of New
England campus in Biddeford.

 

A male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE continues above the falls on the Saco River in
Biddeford.

 

Greater Portland

 

The KING EIDER at Dyer Point in Cape Elizabeth was looked for and not
found on March 3 and March 6.

 

Two RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS were noted at a feeder in Scarborough on March
4.

 

A KILLDEER was heard in Portland at the Dragon Fields on March 4.

 

Seen on March 4 at Capisic Pond in Portland were 18 RED-WINGED
BLACKBIRDS, 4 COMMON GRACKLES, and a SWAMP SPARROW.

 

RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS were singing at Scarborough Marsh and at Gilsland
Farm in Falmouth.

 

Midcoast

 

A first winter GLAUCOUS GULL and a THICK-BILLED MURRE were seen at
Pemaquid Point on March 4.

 

A TURKEY VULTURE was soaring over Camden on March 5.

 

Kennebec Valley (Augusta-Waterville)

 

A HOARY REDPOLL was at a feeder on Pleasant Street in Clinton on March
5.

 

Western Mountains

 

A RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD was seen in a snowy wetland off School Street in
Kezar Falls on March 4.
