Name: Maine Audubon Rare Bird Alert
Reporting Period: June 22-25, 2010
Area: State of Maine
Compiler: Eric Hynes

Of Special Note

Top birds for the period are: EURASIAN GREEN-WINGED TEAL, EARED GREBE,
TRICOLORED HERON, and AMERICAN THREE-TOED WOODPECKER.

York County

At least two RUDDY DUCKS, a COMMON MOORHEN, and an EARED GREBE continue at the
Sanford Sewerage District at the end of Gavel Road in Sanford.

Greater Portland

Sporadic sightings of a TRICOLORED HERON in the Scarborough Marsh area continue.
It was seen in the pannes off the Eastern Road Trail on June 23. Also on the
23rd, the drake "Common" or EURASIAN GREEN-WINGED TEAL, showing hints of
possible hybridization, was also seen off the Eastern Road Trail.

A WILSON'S PHALAROPE was in the marsh again behind the Pelreco building on Pine
Point Road in Scarborough on June 22.

Penobscot Bay

A pair of EVENING GROSBEAKS visited feeders in Searsport on June 25.

Central

COMMON MOORHEN remains a reliable species at the Penjajawoc Marsh in Bangor;
best viewed from the Home Depot parking lot.

Northern

A GREEN HERON nest discovered at Lake Josephine in Easton may prove to be the
northern most nesting record for the state. Drake REDHEADS are still being seen
on the lake as well as COMMON MOORHEN in the marsh with the Green Herons.

It has been a good breeding season for sightings of AMERICAN THREE-TOED
WOODPECKERS in northern Maine. Check the Muscovic Road in Stockholm for them
and BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER. Both species are being seen on Burnt Landing Road
in Square Lake Township as well.

Burnt Landing Road is also hosting BAY-BREASTED WARBLERS and TENNESSEE WARBLERS.

CAPE MAY WARBLERS and MOURNING WARBLERS are at the Loring Commerce Center in
Limestone.
