Of Special Note 
  
A BLACK SKIMMER was seen on Stratton Island in Saco Bay on July 23.

Other standouts in the report include: EARED GREBE, RED-BILLED TROPICBIRD,
BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER, RED-NECKED PHALAROPE, and CASPIAN
TERN.
  
Gulf of Maine 
  
Whale watches out of Portland continue to be productive, with CORY'S SHEARWATERS
 and single LEACH'S STORM-PETRELS being highlights this week.  Five RED-NECKED
PHALAROPES were photographed on July 20.  GREATER, SOOTY, and MANX SHEARWATERS
have been seen as well.

The RED-BILLED TROPICBIRD continues to be seen from Seal Island.

York County 

The EARED GREBE continues at Sanford Sewerage District, along with COMMON
MOORHEN (with young) and up to three RUDDY DUCKS.
  
Greater Portland 
  
Two adult BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS and three adult STILT SANDPIPERS continued in the
pannes off Eastern Road Trail across Scarborough Marsh through the 20th.
Neither species was found there on July 23.
  
Midcoast 
  
An adult LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER was found among many shorebirds near high tide at
 Popham Beach State Park in Phippsburg on the 23rd.  On July 20, a WHITE-RUMPED
SANDPIPER, an adult BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, and two WHIMBRELS were noted at the same
location and tide.

Penobscot Bay

Another adult BAIRD'S SANDPIPER turned up at Weskeag Marsh in South Thomaston on
 July 21.

Downeast 

A CASPIAN TERN flew along the shore at Seawall Picnic Area in Acadia National
Park on Mount Desert Island on the 20th.
