LEAST TERN* [CASUAL] (Chippewa County)
CHUCK-WILLS-WIDOW* [ACCIDENTAL] (Berrien County)
WESTERN TANAGER* [CASUAL] (Iosco County)
This is the Michigan Statewide Bird Report for Thursday, June 1st, 2006.
This month is sponsored by the Berrien Birding Club.
My sincere apologies to the lack of material in this weeks report. Due to
circumstances beyond my control, I was unable to compile a full report this
week. (For one thing, we had lightning strike our computers). Back June 8th,
2006 with (hopefully) full report. JW
BERRIEN COUNTY - The CHUCK-WILLS-WIDOW* continues to broadcast its
distinctive call, nightly, along Jones Road, near intersection with Long
Lake Road.
CHIPPEWA COUNTY - a LEAST TERN* was seen may 29th at Whitfish Point Bird
Observatory.
IOSCO COUNTY - A WESTERN TANAGER* was reported at Tawas Point on May 26th
and May 27th.
ANOUNCEMENTS: HELP NEEDED WITH PRAIRIE WARBLER SURVEY
If you see/hear a Prairie Warbler ANYTIME this spring or summer, in ANY part
of the state, please call or email Katie Kahl with the most specific
location description possible. GPS points are best, but an accurate
location description (i.e. distance and direction from the nearest road or
crossroads) works too. Your reports will help in predicting where Prairie
Warblers will choose to breed and assist in the conservation of Michigan
Prairie Warblers.
If you have Prairie Warblers to report or any questions about the study,
please call me at 517-896-7372 or email Katie Kahl at kahlkath@msu.edu.
Your help is extremely appreciated! Thank you.
The next scheduled update of this report will be on Thursday, June 8th,
2006. To report your sightings, please leave a message at the sound of the
tone, or call Jon Wuepper at 269-556-9510. Thank you for calling and good
birding.
