This is a summary of New Brunswick bird sightings since the last update
(October 12) of the New Brunswick Bird Information Line. Only a few of
these sightings come from the NB Bird Info Line - most of this information
was gleaned from postings to the NatureNB listserv and compiled by S.
Tingley. Many of these records are unconfirmed.
WESTERN GREBE [Grebe elegant] - 1 reported on White Head Island (Grand
Manan) on Oct. 30 (Dwayne Sabine and Dedreic Grecian).
BARNACLE GOOSE [Bernache nonnette] - 1 adult present with 100's of Canada
Geese at the Jones Farm on the Coverdale Road west of Moncton, November 3-4
(Stuart Tingley and many others; origin uncertain).
EURASIAN WIGEON [Canard siffleur] - 1 ad. male present with American Wigeon
at Nature Conservancy property on Route 11 at Tabusintac, Oct. 18 (Nicole
Benoit) and Nov. 2nd (S. Tingley and others).
HARLEQUIN DUCK [Arlequin plongeur] - 3 males at Cape Enrage, Albert Co.,
Oct. 25 (Don Gibson, Shirley Sloat, Peter Pearce); 1 male, 2 females at
Point Lepreau, Oct. 30 (Eileen Pike, Janet Whitehead); "a number" at Gull
Rocks, White Head Island, Oct. 29-30 (D. Sabine, D. Grecian); 1 female on
Saint John R. at Fredericton, Oct. 31 (Don Murray); 1 male and 1 female at
Miscou Island bridge, Nov. 2 (S. Tingley and others).
RUDDY DUCK [Erismature rousse] - 1 male at Tracadie-Sheila sewage lagoon,
Oct. 19-21 (N. Benoit and J. St.-Pierre); still there Nov. 3 (fide Marcel
David); 2 present on Petitcodiac R. at Coverdale, Nov. 4 (S.Tingley).
CATTLE EGRET [Heron garde-boeufs] - 1 adult near McGowan's Corner, Oct. 25
- 26 (Nev Garrity, Gilles Belliveau); the same bird (?) was present at
Lower Jemseg Nov. 1+; 1 adult at MacDonald Drive off the Old Shediac Road
in Moncton, Nov. 2-4 (Doug and Phyllis Whitman and many others).
YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON [Bihoreau violace] - 1 imm. at Bancroft Point,
Grand Manan Island, Oct. 16 (Brian Dalzell).
TURKEY VULTURE [Urubu a tete rouge] - 1 adult at Miscou Island, Oct. 21-22
(Robert Doiron); 1 found dead near St. Quentin, Restigouce Co., late
October (fide J. Denys Bourque).
GOLDEN EAGLE [Aigle royale] - 1 over Green's Point lighthouse, Charlotte
Co., Oct. 18 (Brian Cowan); 1 adult heading west near Mary's Point, Albert
Co., Oct. 19 (David Christie, Mary Majka).
SANDHILL CRANE [Grue du Canada] - 2 present near Havelock, Kings Co., Oct.
1-24 (vars. obs.).
LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER [Becassin a long bec] - 2 at Daley Creek Marsh,
Mary's Point, Albert Co., Oct. 28 (Roger LeBlanc); 1 still there Nov. 1 (D.
Christie and M. Majka).
LAUGHING GULL [Mouette atricille] - 1 at Mactaquac, Nov. 1 (Bev Schneider).
LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL [Goeland brun] - 1 adult at Coverdale, Albert Co.,
Oct. 27 (D. Christie), Nov. 1 (Fred Dube) and across the river on the
Salisbury Road, Nov. 3 (Jim and Jean Wilson).
SNOWY OWL [Harfang des neiges] - 1 or 2 in Moncton Nov. 1-3 (many observers).
NORTHERN HAWK OWL [Chouette eperviere] - 1 near Wilson Point, Miscou
Island, Nov. 4 (Hilaire and Rose-Aline Chiasson).
WHITE-WINGED DOVE [Tourterelle a ailes blanches] - 1 present for several
days around Oct. 25 at a Saint John feeder (Frank Kelly).
YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO [Coulicou a bec jaune] - 1 at Mary's Point, Oct. 26
(D. Christie).
FORK-TAILED FLYCATCHER [Tyran des savanes] - 1 at Ward Road on Miscou
Island, Oct. 7-16 (Gerard Benoit, Jacqueline Paulin and many others).
WESTERN KINGBIRD [Tyran de l'Ouest] - 2 at Mary's Point, Oct. 18 (Mike
Majka); 1 at Miscou Harbour, Miscou Island, Nov. 4 (Frank Branch and Robert
Doiron).
CAROLINA WREN [Troglodyte de Caroline] - 1 adult banded at Bayside,
Charlotte Co., Oct. 19 (Tracey Dean); 1 at Riviere-a-la-Truite (near
Tracadie-Sheila) Nov. 3-4 (Jean-Yves Paulin).
BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER [Gobemoucheron gris-bleu] - 1 at Miscou Island, Oct.
16 (Jude Larocque and Roland Robichaud).
BROWN THRASHER [Moqueur roux] - 1 at Miscou Island, Oct. 21 (R. Doiron).
YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER [Paruline a gorge jaune] - 1 photographed at Saint
John, Oct. 31 (F. Kelly).
YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT [Paruline polyglotte] - 1 at Mary's Point Oct. 29 and
Nov. 3 (D. Christie); also one found dead near there on Oct. 29 (Don
McAlpine).
BLUE GROSBEAK [Guiraca bleu] - 1 immature at feeder, Harvey Bank, Albert
Co., Oct. 25 - Nov. 3 (John Inman, Pauline Woodworth and many others).
INDIGO BUNTING [Passerin indigo] - 1 at a feeder in Saint-Leonard,
Madawaska Co., Oct. 15-16 (Roy and Charlotte Lapointe and others); 1 at a
Saint John feeder, Oct. 23 (Merv Cormier); 1 at Mary's Point, Oct. 30 (D.
Christie and M. Majka).
EASTERN TOWHEE [Tohi a flancs roux] - 1 female at Mary's Point, Oct. 14 (D.
Christie); 1 female at a feeder in Alma, Albert Co., Oct. 21-23 (Doreen
Rossiter and Bev Schneider); 1 female at Trudel, Acadian Peninsula, Oct.
21-25 (Frank Branch); 1 male at a Saint John feeder, Oct. 22-23 (F. Kelly);
1 female at a feeder on the Memel Road, Hopewill Hill, Albert Co., Nov. 3
(Normand and Gisele Belliveau and others).
LARK SPARROW [Bruant a joues marron] - 1 at Wilson Point, Miscou Island,
Nov. 3 (R. Doiron).
FIELD SPARROW [Bruant des champs] - 1 banded at St. Andrews, Oct. 21
(Tracey Dean); 1 at Fundy Nat. Park on Oct. 31 (S. Tingley); 1 at a feeder
in Alma, Albert Co., Nov. 1-2 (D. Rossiter).
CLAY-COLORED SPARROW [Bruant des plaines] - 1 at a feeder in Alma, Oct. 12
(Don Gibson and others).
BREWER'S BLACKBIRD [Quiscale de Brewer] - 1 adult male at a feeder on Grand
Manan Island, Oct. 9-10 (Thomas Gardner fide Brian Dalzell).
