mentioned are area code 701.

Transcriber's Note: Birds listed in ALL CAPS in the Birds Mentioned section

Some rare appearances top our report this week.

Two adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS were among the hundreds of gulls and diving
ducks that Corey Ellingson and his mother found at Long Lake National Wildlife
Refuge on March
31. The mix included 20 FRANKLIN'S GULLS, 750 RING-BILLED GULLS, 55 HERRING
GULLS and eight CALIFORNIA GULLS. The waterfowl highlight was a RED-BREASTED
MERGANSER. Earlier in the day, they saw a pair of FERRUGINOUS HAWKS on a nest,
and a
GREAT BLUE HERON south of McKenzie Slough. On April 3, Corey was joined by Clark
 Talkington
at the Bismarck landfill, where they found an adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL
and a
juvenile GLAUCOUS GULL among 3000 birds. For details, contact Corey at
crackerjackbirder@bis.midco.net

 noted a major
movement of hawks, mostly RED-TAILED HAWKS. On April 4, Wayne estimated he saw
hundreds of
hawks in the area around Goose Lake and Harvey. He also recorded a huge flock of
 SANDHILL CRANES.
