This is a summary of the Cincinnati, Ohio RBA tape for Tuesday, December 7,
1999. This tape is sponsored by the Cincinnati Bird Club and compiled by

A first-winter Black-legged Kittiwake was seen on December 4 and 5 at
Mehldahl Dam. It was seen, in the company of many Bonaparte's Gulls and
Ring-billed Gulls, both above and below the dam. The area can be seen from
the Ohio side, but is best viewed from the Kentucky side of the dam. There
have been no reports, positive or negative, since Sunday.

A flock of 13 mixed Red Crossbills and White-winged Crossbills was seen at
Mitchell Memorial Forest on November 24. Other observers were not able to
relocate the birds during the following days.

A male Common Redpoll was seen at East Fork State Park on December 5, in
the shoreline thickets at the extreme left (facing the lake) end of the
south beach. A female was reported coming to a New Richmond feeder during
late November. The Pomarine Jaeger has not been seen since November 15. A
female Oldsquaw was seen from the south beach on November 25. Thirty Purple
Finches were at East Fork on December 5.

An extensive mudflat is exposed at the north end of Brookville Lake. Birds
seen from the Dunlapsville Causeway on December 6 included 91 Sandhill
Cranes, 34 Great Blue Herons, 7 Common Snipes, 240 Killdeers, and 7 Hooded
Mergansers.

Three White Pelicans were seen in Dayton on November 26 and 28, in the Well
Field Ponds, south of Route 4 between Harshman Road and the exit to Route 444.

C.J. Brown Reservoir, east of Springfield, also has extensive mudflats.
Fifteen Common Snipes and 4 Least Sandpiper were among the many Killdeers
found there December 4 and 5. There are also mudflats at Cowan Lake. On
November 28, seventeen Common Snipes were among the 200 Killdeers there.

On November 21, two Rough-legged Hawks were in the fields south of Rocky
Fork Lake. Red-tailed Hawks, American Kestrels, Cooper's Hawks and Northern
Harriers were also seen that day.

The Camp Dennison gravel pits had 4 Green-winged Teal, 2 Gadwalls, 82
Ring-necked Ducks, 7 Buffleheads, 5 Hooded Mergansers, 7 Ruddy Ducks, and
500+ American Coots on November 26.

A very late Black-crowned Night-Heron was seen at A.J. Jolley Park, in
Campbell County, on November 13.
