You've reached the NW Ohio Rare bird Alert for Wednesday, January 10th.
This tape is sponsored by the Toledo Naturalists' Association. Highlights
are HARLEQUIN DUCK and ICELAND GULL.

The HARLEQUIN DUCK, first discovered on December 30th is still being seen on
the Maumee River Rapids in Grand Rapids. From Toledo, take route 24 SW to
the town of Grand Rapids. Cross the river on route 578, and turn to the
right and go to the railroad bridge. The bird can usually be seen just
upstream from this bridge.

A bird described as an immature ICELAND GULL was reported from along Lotus
Street, in extreme southern Monroe, Co, MI on Tuesday afternoon, January
9th. From Toledo, take Suder street north to just over the state line. Go
west on Lotus street for a mile or so, and check the area back to the south,
in front of the landfill.

On the east side of Toledo, the winter's first report of a SHORT-EARED OWL
came in on Tuesday. This bird was seen along the north side of route 2,
east of Stange road.

A NORTHERN SHRIKE has been frequenting the causeway at Magee Marsh over the
last several days.

The OLDSQUAW at the Castalia duck pond in Castalia, also east of town, was
last reported from Saturday afternoon, but could still be present.

If you see the Harlequin duck, or to report your sightings, please leave a
detailed message after the tape. And if reporting a rare bird, be sure to
leave your phone number. Thanks for calling, and good birding.
