This is a Rare Bird Alert for Southwestern Ohio (Dayton) for
Friday, August 29, 2008, sponsored by the Dayton Audubon
Society.

COMMON NIGHTHAWKS have been seen in numbers flying over Englewood and
over the Spring Valley Area.

A number of AMERICAN REDSTARTS are being seen throughout the area.

On August 28th and 29th seen at Englewood MetroPark were AMERICAN
GOLDEN-PLOVER feeding in the duck feeding area and WILSON'S PHALAROPE
found at the southeastern end of the lagoon and accessible from the
first parking lot to left after entering into the lower park.

A BLACK TERN was seen at the same lagoon on August 28th  while an
immature BALD EAGLE was seen flying over the park.

Seen August 26th at Englewood MetroPark were CANADA WARBLER, WARBLING
VIREO, IMMATURE BALD EAGLE; BLACK-BELLIED and SEMIPALMATED PLOVER;
PECTORAL, SOLITARY and LEAST SANDPIPER; GREAT EGRET and PILEATED
WOODPECKER.

On August 26th BLUE GROSBEAK was observed at Englewood MetroPark
north park.

On August 25th on the Great Miami River near Carillon Park were two
WESTERN SANDPIPERS first reported on the 22nd.

On August 25th a BALD EAGLE was seen near the gravel pit on Roxanna-
New Burlington Rd. There have been reports of an Eagle in this area
over the past week. Also observed along the bike path there were BLUE
GROSBEAK; and SHARP-SHINNED and COOPER'S HAWK.
