Per the January 3 Oklahoma ListServ post, two TUNDRA SWANS continue to be
seen at the western edge of Red Slough WMA from the Blackland Road. Also
two SANDHILL CRANE were observed in this area on this date
Two TUNDRA SWAN and ONE TRUMPETER SWAN were on the Foss Reservoir in Custer
County, January 5 at Panther Creek at the south end of the reservoir. In
addition five WESTERN GREBE were near the Foss dam.
On January 6, two TRUMPETER SWANS were found in a field with geese in
McClain County approximately ½ mile west of the junction of I44 and SH37.
Take the Tuttle exit, go west 1 mile to first intersection. The swans were
seen about 200 yards north of that intersection.
Two GLAUCOUS GULLS and one THAYER'S GULL, all first-year, were at the
Robert S. Kerr Lake in Sequoyah County. Look for the gulls below and above
the dam.
Two PACIFIC LOONS were on Tenkiller Lake in Sequoyah County. One was seen
from Tenkiller State Park and the other from Strayhorn Landing on the west
side of the lake which can be reached by taking SH10A from the dam.
In the Panhandle area a VIRGINIA RAIL and a LESSER YELLOWLEGS were seen at
Optima Lake in Texas County on January 4. On January 5 a BLACK-CAPPED
CHICKADEE and a YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER were at the Regnier Ranch on
January 5. In addition a YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER was at the Benton Ranch,
January 6. Both of these ranches are in Cimarron County.
An immature NIGHT-HERON was on Lake Sherry in Mohawk Park on January 5.
The heron was looked for on the 6th but not found.
