Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday August 14. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
503-233-3976. 

On August 9 excellent photos of a GREATER SHEARWATER were taken 17 miles SW
of Newport. On August 7 a HAWAIIAN PETREL was seen 160 miles west of Yaquina
Head. A FRIGATEBIRD was reported August 8, 63 miles W of Tillamook.

On August 12 a LAYSAN ALBATROSS was 20 miles W of Coos Bay. The August 10
offshore boat trip out of Newport located 40 SABINEıS GULLS, 80 ARCTIC
TERNS, a SKUA, and 15 LONG-TAILED JAEGERS. Fifteen ELEGANT TERNS were still
at Gold Beach August 12. A FRANKLINıS GULL was at Yaquina Bay August 7.

On August 9 a CATBIRD was along Lower River Road near Ridgefield NWR. That
day four BLACK SWIFTS, 12 BANK SWALLOWS and a MERLIN were on the refuge.
Large numbers of BANK SWALLOWS, 56 GREAT EGRETS, and  19 WHITE PELICANS were
on Sauvie Island August 9. Seven  SANDHILL CRANES were on the Island August
8. 

On August 7 a CATBIRD was seen in NE Portland. Two CLARKıS NUTCRACKERS have
been seen during the week at Rose Villa in Oak Grove, south of Portland. A
FRANKLINıS GULL was at the Fernhill Wetlands August 7. A LONG-BILLED CURLEW
was in Eugene August 8.
