This is the Berks County Birding Hotline for Tuessday, January 30th.
Highlights include: NORTHERN SHRIKE and NORTHERN GOSHAWK.

Things have been relatively quiet birdwise in Berks COunty recently. At
Blue Marsh, 2 TRUMPETER SWANS are still being seen at the upper end of
the lake. They can be seen below the bridge on the road to the ski
slope. These birds are semi-tame and probably came from a waterfowl
collection. On the 25th at Blue Marsh a COOPER'S HAWK, A SHARP-SHINNED
HAWK, an immature NORTHERN GOSHAWK and a NORTHERN HARRIER were seen.
The NORTHERN SHRIKE off of Bright School Road was reported again on
Saturday the 27th. To get to this spot, take Rte 183 to Bright School
Road, which is just north of the Sheidy boat launch. Turn onto Bright
School Rd and go to the parking lot on the left side. Across the street
from the lot is an access road. Walk down that road until you come out
into an area of fields and hedgerows at the bottom of the hill. The
shrike has been seen in this area for several weeks now. On the 29th, 3
NORTHERN HARRIERS were seen at Blue Marsh.

On the 26th at Glen Morgan Lake 2 REDHEADS, 2 COMMON MERGANSERS, 2 MUTE
SWANS, 2 CANADA GEESE and 8 AMERICAN BLACK DUCKS were seen in a small
area of open water. Lots of gulls were there - about 3000, including an
adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL and a second-year GREAT BLACK-BACKED
GULL.

At the intersection of School Road and Milestone Rd, near Robesonia
there was a COMMON SNIPE and a KILLDEER. A COOPER'S HAWK has been seen
chasing feeder birds at a feeder in Henningsville. In Hamburg a
CHIPPING SPARROW is still coming to a feeder, which is somewhat unusual
at this time of year. At Big Springs Farm there were about 200 HORNED
LARKS on the 29th.

Please remember that we need your sightings to make this bird report
possible. This hotline will not be updated unless there are sightings
reported.
