This is the Berks County Birding Hotline for Monday, February 26th.
Highlights include: GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE and NORTHERN SHRIKE.
On February 17th, at Glen Morgan Lake, there were 3 AMERICAN WIGEON, 7
HOODED MERGANSERS, 82 COMMON MERGANSERS, 9 CANVASBACKS, 17 RING-NECKED
DUCKS, a few REDHEADS and an adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL.
On the 18th, at Lake Ontelaunee, there were 2 REDHEADS, a COMMON
GOLDENEYE and many SNOW GEESE. At Blue Marsh on the 19th many SNOW
GEESE were seen flying over. Other birds seen include COMMON
MERGANSERS, a NORTHERN SHRIKE and a NORTHERN HARRIER.
On the 21st, at Lake Ontelaunee, there were ten to fifteen thousand
SNOW GEESE, 12 GADWALL, 27 NORTHERN PINTAILS, 11 AMERICAN WIGEON, 1
GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 4 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 2 male REDHEADS, 63 COMMON
MERGANSERS, 3 HOODED MERGANSERS and 1 HORNED GREBE. On the 23rd, 60
SNOW GEESE were seen flying over Reading. At Lake Ontelaunee on the
24th there were about 100 SNOW GEESE on the lake along with another 100
that flew over without stopping. There were also 42 RING-NECKED DUCKS,
35 NORTHERN PINTAILS, 6 AMERICAN WIGEON, 4 GADWALL, 60 COMMON
MERGANSERS, 7 GREAT BLUE HERONS and a BLACK VULTURE.
On the 25th, in the fields above Lyons, 300 HORNED LARKS and 1
SAVANNAH SPARROW were seen along Oak Haven Rd. At Water Street at the
north end of Ontelaunee, there were 8 NORTHERN PINTAILS, 6
GREEN-WINGEED TEAL and 2 RING-NECKED DUCKS. At the Moselem Springs golf
course pond there were about 2 dozen GADWALL. On the 26th at Lake
Ontelaunee there were 8,000-10,000 SNOW GEESE, an adult GREATER
WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE, 107 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 8 AMERICAN WIGEON, 2
GADWALL, 40 NORTHERN PINTAILS, 60 COMMON MERGANSERS and a second-winter
LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL.
