Welcome to Pennsylvania Audubon's and the Patriot-News' Birdline. This
Birdline covers sightings made primarily during the week prior to
Thursday, June 18, 2009.
ADAMS COUNTY:
There was a BLUE GROSBEAK singing on a wire south of Route 116 between
McSherystown and Bonneauville on June 13 (PR).
A DICKCISSEL was seen on June 14 singing on a wire along a road,
possibly Sells Station Road (observer wasn't certain about the name of
this road), near Christ Church Road (RH).
CAMERON COUNTY:
Fiver or 6 PINE SISKINS were seen in Sinnemahoning State Park on June 14
(MJ).
CENTRE COUNTY:
A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER was observed on June 14 along Route 45 about 2.5
miles east of Spring Mills (MH).
A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER was seen in Rothrock State Forest over the June
13-14 weekend (LW).
A flock of 8 PINE SISKINS has been visiting feeders several times a day
on a daily basis at the Wasser residence (LW).
CUMBERLAND COUNTY:
A SUMMER TANAGER was found on June 10 in State Game Lands 249 at a
location that is 4.8 miles north of the intersection of Route 944 and 74
(AM).
DAUPHIN COUNTY:
A COMMON MOORHEN was observed on June 12 at Lake Tobias (BH, JH).
FRANKLIN COUNTY:
The previously reported DICKCISSEL continues to be seen along Route 416
just past Brandt's Church Road between St. Thomas and Mercersburg
through June 13 (BO).
A second DICKCISSEL was found on June 13 a few miles from the first
along Windmill Road (BO).
A male BLUE GROSBEAK was singing on June 13 along Boundary Road west of
Chambersburg and about 2 miles from another male and female that were
along the roadside eating grit (DS).
FULTON COUNTY:
There were at least 3 singing male BLUE GROSBEAKS near the town of Buck
Valley on June 14 (DS).
LANCASTER COUNTY:
There was a late report of a leucistic TURKEY VULTURE that was seen and
photographed flying over Breezyview Park Overlook and Chickies Rock on
June 7 (ML). The photographs are at:

LEBANON COUNTY:
An immature SANDHILL CRANE was found on June 15 at Lake Duffy along the
old railroad bed trail in State Game Lands 145 (AA).
A BALD EAGLE was seen along Swatara Creek at Blue Rocks on June 16 (DD).
MCKEAN COUNTY:
A MERLIN was observed in Bradford on June 13 (JF).
TIOGA COUNTY:
A flock of around 35 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS was seen along Snyder Point
Road on June 14 (BI).
