Welcome to Pennsylvania Audubon's and the Patriot-News' Birdline. This Birdline
covers sightings made primarily during the week prior to Thursday, August 12,
2010.

ADAMS COUNTY:
An EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE was found on August 9 in Arendtsville (MW).

BLAIR COUNTY:
The TRUMPETER SWAN continues to be seen through August 7 at Canoe Creek State
Park Lake (SK).

CENTRE COUNTY:
There were 3 LESSER YELLOWLEGS at Julian Wetlands on August 8 (DGu).

Colyer Lake produced 6 LEAST SANDPIPERS and 1 PECTORAL SANDPIPER on August 8
(GG).

CUMBERLAND COUNTY:
Waggoner's Gap Hawk Watch reported counting 1 OSPREY, 6 BALD EAGLES, 2 NORTHERN
HARRIERS, 2 SHARP-SHINNED HAWKS, 6 COOPER'S HAWKS, 1 RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, 21
BROAD-WINGED HAWKS, 3 RED-TAILED HAWKS, 9 AMERICAN KESTRELS and 1 PEREGRINE
FALCON between August 5 and 10 (DG, DO, CH, RF).

A MERLIN was seen on August 11 along Mudlevel Road just east of Duncan (VG).

Deerfield Commons retention ponds produced 1 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 2 LEAST
SANDPIPERS and 2 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS on August 11 (VG).

DAUPHIN COUNTY:
Seven BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERONS and 2 YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT HERONS were observed
 in the Susquehanna River from the West Fairview Boat Ramp on August 6 (ST).

FRANKLIN COUNTY:
The pond along Kriner Road produced 1 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 1 LEAST SANDPIPERS and
3 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS on August 6 (BO).

HUNTINGDON COUNTY:
An immature GLOSSY IBIS was observed in the east pool of Old Crow Wetlands on
August 8 and 9 (DK, TK, CK, AT, HP).

LANCASTER COUNTY:
Four PEREGRINE FALCONS were seen on August 6 and 9 around the Route 462 Bridge
over the Susquehanna River (ML, CA,JL).

Conejohela Flats or the larger Conowingo Pool produced up to 5 immature and 23
adult BALD EAGLES, 2 PEREGRINE FALCONS, 1 SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, 2 GREATER
YELLOWLEGS, 36 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 35 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 175 LEAST
SANDPIPERS, 1 BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, 5 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 1 COMMON TERN, 55
FORSTER'S TERNS (some of these were across the state line in Maryland), and 2
BLACK TERNS between August 7 and 8 (JB, DB, BS).

A MOURNING WARBLER was seen on August 9 in State Game Lands 15, near the former
Cornwall Fire Tower site (JB, DB).

An immature BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERON was seen on August 10 and 11 in a small
pond near 5626 Umbletown Road in Gap (CC). Call 717-808-4626 to check if the
birds are still around and to make an appointment to view the birds (CC).

LEBANON COUNTY:
The CHUCK-WILLS-WIDOW continues to be heard in the evenings along Tomstown Road
through at least August 6 (DM).

Second Mountain Hawk Watch reported counting 1 OSPREY, 1 BALD EAGLE, 3
SHARP-SHINNED HAWKS, 2 COOPER'S HAWKS, 3 BROAD-WINGED HAWKS, 5 RED-TAILED HAWKS
and 3 AMERICAN KESTRELS between August 6 and 8 (RB, DS).

MCKEAN COUNTY:
There were 3 MERLINS in Bradford on August 8 (JF).

SCHUYKILL/BERKS COUNTIES:
PACE

YORK COUNTY:
There were 3 SNOWY EGRETS and 1 immature YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT HERON at the
Conowago Boat launch on Brunner Island on August 9 (LC).
