From last week: on 2/24 at Blueberry Hill park, 6 Eastern Bluebirds (DN).
At Duck Hollow on 2/26, sightings included 1 drake CANVASBACK, 1 hen SCAUP SP.,
3 BUFFLEHEADS; on 3/2, 1 drake CANVASBACK, 2 hen SCAUP SP., 1 drake and 1 hen
REDHEAD, 1 Herring Gull, many Ring-billed Gulls (JS).
On 2/26 in Pittsburgh, pair of PEREGRINE FALCONS (AB).
On 2/27 in Hampton Township, 1 Red-shouldered Hawk; on 3/3, Common Grackles
(RN).
In Etna on 3/1, 18 flyover SURF/BLACK SCOTERS (DYag).
In Imperial on 3/1, 1 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, 2 Turkey Vultures (MVas).
On 3/1 along the Ohio River, sightings included 11 AMERICAN WIGEON at Woods Run,
16 BUFFLEHEADS, 4 CANVASBACKS, 5 COMMON GOLDENEYES, 1 HORNED GREBE, 1
Pied-billed Grebe (MVas).
On 3/2 along the Allegheny River, sightings included 1 Pied-Billed Grebe, 2
Hooded Mergansers, 1 hen GREATER SCAUP, 1 Herring Gull at the Barking area; 5
drake CANVASBACKS, 1 drake BUFFLEHEAD, 1 hen COMMON GOLDENEYE at the Fox Chapel
Yacht Club vicinity; 3 Pied-billed Grebes, 3 COMMON MERGANSERS, 1 SCAUP/REDHEAD,
Herring Gulls, Ring-billed Gulls in Blawnox (AH).
In Plum on 3/2, 2 flyover Killdeer (AH).
BEAVER COUNTY:
On 2/26 in Rochester, 12 REDHEADS, 2 BUFFLEHEADS, 3 COMMON GOLDENEYES; on 2/27,
1 SURF SCOTER remains present (MVas). The SURF SCOTER was also seen on the
evening of 3/1 (RG).
At the New Brighton boat launch on 2/26, 2 CANVASBACKS, 1 GREATER SCAUP, 2
RING-NECKED DUCKS, 1 GADWALL, 1 HORNED GREBE; near the New Brighton Dam on 2/28,
1 HARLEQUIN DUCK with 4 BUFFLEHEADS (MVas); the HARLEQUIN DUCK was also seen on
2/29, and is a first-year male; also seen that day were 1 AMERICAN WIGEON, 4
CANVASBACKS, 2 REDHEADS, 1 RING-NECKED DUCK, a few SCAUP SP., 4 BUFFLEHEADS, 2
COMMON GOLDENEYES, 1 HORNED GREBE, a few hundred Ring-billed Gulls (GM). At Big
Rock Park in New Brighton on 3/1, 1 HARLEQUIN DUCK, 1 drake RING-NECKED DUCK, 3
BUFFLEHEADS, 2 REDHEADS, 2 Hooded Mergansers, 10 CANVASBACKS, AMERICAN BLACK
DUCKS, 5 American Coots (MF).
On 2/29 along the Beaver River, sightings included 1 HARLEQUIN DUCK (see above),
2 REDHEADS, 2 GREATER SCAUP, 5 CANVASBACKS, 2 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 1 AMERICAN
WIGEON, 6 AMERICAN BLACK DUCKS, 7 BUFFLEHEADS, 2 Hooded Mergansers, 3 COMMON
GOLDENEYES, 1 SURF SCOTER (Rochester bird), 1 Pied-billed Grebe, 1 HORNED GREBE,
13 American Coots, 2 BALD EAGLES; on 3/2, 1 SURF SCOTER in Rochester, 1
HARLEQUIN DUCK near New Brighton, 9 Hooded Mergansers, 1 HORNED GREBE, 3
RING-NECKED DUCKS, 7 AMERICAN BLACK DUCKS, 3 REDHEADS, 6 CANVASBACKS, 7 COMMON
GOLDENEYES, 2 GREATER SCAUP, 1 LESSER SCAUP, 7 BUFFLEHEADS, 1 COMMON MERGANSER,
14 American Coots, 2 BALD EAGLES, 9 Cedar Waxwings in Bridgewater, pair of
PEREGRINE FALCONS and pair of COMMON RAVENS in Rochester (MVas).
On 3/2 in Hopewell Township, Red-winged Blackbirds (BW).
BUTLER COUNTY:
On 2/28 at The Glades (State Game Lands 95), 1 NORTHERN SHRIKE, 1 immature BALD
EAGLE (MF and JV).
At Moraine State Park on 2/28, sightings included 1 Red-shouldered Hawk, 7
PURPLE FINCHES, 1 Field Sparrow, 20+ AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS (MF and JV).
On 2/28 along Interstate 79 just South of Portersville, a male Ring-necked
Pheasant ran across the highway (MF and JV).
CRAWFORD COUNTY:
On 2/25 perched along Route 27, 1 NORTHERN GOSHAWK (LAR).
On 2/25 near Chapmanville, 1 EVENING GROSBEAK (LAR).
ERIE COUNTY:
At Horseshoe Pond in Presque Isle State Park on 3/2, 1 PEREGRINE FALCON (JM).
This week in southern Erie County, COMMON REDPOLLS continue to be reported at
feeders (JM).
INDIANA COUNTY:
Along Barkley Road this week, 20+ HORNED LARKS have been seen daily (MC).
In Clarksburg on 2/26, 2 male Red-winged Blackbirds, 1 Eastern Towhee, Dark-eyed
Juncos, AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS; on 2/29, 1 female PURPLE FINCH, Eastern Towhee,
55 AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS, 35+ Dark-eyed Juncos, 36+ White-throated Sparrows,
and others; on 3/1, female PURPLE FINCH; on 3/2, Red-winged Blackbirds, male
PURPLE FINCH, Eastern Towhee, Eastern Bluebirds (MC).
LAWRENCE COUNTY:
In New Wilmington on 2/25, 1 Eastern Towhee; on 2/26, 2 Killdeer (RW). On 2/28,
sightings in the area included 300+ HORNED LARKS, 300+ SNOW BUNTINGS, 4 LAPLAND
LONGSPURS, 2 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS, 8 WILSON'S SNIPE, 2 AMERICAN PIPITS, 3 Eastern
Meadowlarks (MF and JV).
SOMERSET COUNTY:
In Stoystown on 2/26, 1 piebald Red-tailed Hawk (DW).
In St. Paul through 2/28, 1 LAPLAND LONGSPUR with ~50 HORNED LARKS; also 1 SNOW
GOOSE associating with resident Canada Geese (MLu).
WARREN COUNTY:
In Tidioute on 2/26, 30 COMMON REDPOLLS, 10+ PINE SISKINS, Dark-eyed Juncos, and
others (LAR).
WASHINGTON COUNTY:
At the Hahn Road AMD pond on 2/27, 2 CANVASBACKS, 1 RUDDY DUCK, 1 RING-NECKED
DUCK, 2 American Coots; on 3/1, 2 CANVASBACKS, 1 RUDDY DUCK, 1 RING-NECKED DUCK,
2 American Coots (MV).
On 2/28 in Coal Center, 2 FOX SPARROWS (JoT), and 1 AMERICAN TREE SPARROW
continues with Dark-eyed Juncos (AT).
At Reservoir #4 on 3/1, sightings included 1 CANVASBACK, 4 LESSER SCAUP, 4
REDHEADS, 9 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 2 Hooded Mergansers, 2 AMERICAN WIGEON, 4
American Coots (MVas).
WESTMORELAND COUNTY:
On 3/1 at the Winnie Palmer Nature Reserve, 1 COMMON RAVEN, WHITE-CROWNED
SPARROW, and others (TV).
At the wetlands by the Gristmill on 3/1, 2 blue-phase SNOW GEESE (TV).
Near Latrobe Airport on 3/1, sightings included 1 male NORTHERN HARRIER, 1
WILSON'S SNIPE, 7+ WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS (TV).
On 3/2 at Wildcat Commons in Latrobe, 2 Ring-billed Gulls, 1 Turkey Vulture
(TV).
At Ethel Lake in Derry on 3/2, 1 SANDHILL CRANE (TV).
On 3/3 at Keystone State Park, 2 Killdeer, Eastern Bluebird, and others (TV).
On 3/3 at Loyalhanna Lake, 80 COMMON MERGANSERS, 14 Hooded Mergansers, 3
RING-NECKED DUCKS, 1 Ring-billed Gull (TV).
In Saltsburg on 3/3, Red-winged Blackbirds, Common Grackles, Killdeer (KD).
